PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

New Programs Developed

2015 - 2017 Master’s of Education: Blended Early Childhood and Special EducationOhio UniversityThe Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education offers an online Master’s Degree in Education with dual licensure in Early Childhood Education (ages 3-8) and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (prekindergarten-grade 3). The program meets the Ohio teacher licensure requirements for both license areas. This advanced program is available for teachers who already have licensure in early childhood education, elementary education, or as an intervention specialist. It aligns with the following professional standards: Council for Exceptional Children, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession; it also encompasses best practices from the Division for Early Childhood Recommended Practices, Ohio Leadership Advisory Council, and Ohio Improvement Program.

The mission of the Blended Early Childhood and Special Education program is to utilize current adult learning principles to increase the quantity and quality of the early childhood workforce and to improve services and outcomes for children ages birth to 8 and their families. The Blended program will do this by supporting teacher leaders to utilize advanced knowledge, skills, and dispositions to (a) identify delays and disabilities early, (b) implement reflective and responsive interventions that are child-centered and aligned with research and theory for young children with and without disabilities birth to 8 years, and (c) to enhance teacher candidates’ capacities to support children’s families in interacting positively and responsively with their children. Our teacher candidates are prepared to implement respectful and culturally responsive services and supports to children from diverse backgrounds across a variety of settings.

2015 - 2016 Prekindergarten Special Needs EndorsementOhio UniversityThe Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education offers an online Prekindergarten Special Needs Endorsement Program that focuses on the effective implementation of evidence-based interventions, services, and supports for children 3-5 years old with and at risk for disabilities. The program meets the Ohio teacher licensure requirements for addition of the Ohio Endorsement in Prekindergarten Special Needs to be added onto teachers’ current licenses in early childhood education, elementary education, or intervention specialist. It aligns with the Ohio Prekindergarten
