OB Assignment – Section B Group -1 Question-1: Why are the two reports submitted by Jennifer and Mike so different? Did Jenifer and mike have different perceptions of the same incident? Answer-1: Jeniffer has drawn her report based on the fact that Mike performance has been drastically nosedive during the past fifteen months and current incident also indicates his low performance issue (Low Distinctiveness) which comes from Internal Factors. Further her report shows “High Consistency” of Mike declining performance during the past fifteen months which again comes from Internal Factors. Her report underestimated the external factor which could have played a role for such incident (Fundamental Attribution Error). However Mike has submitted the report wherein he emphasized on External factors causing such incident (Self Serving Biasing). Yes Jennifer perception towards incident has neglected the influence of external factor and overestimated the influence of internal factors. In contract, Mike perception is viewed as failure of external environment rather than his own negligence. Question-2: What principle of perception do you find in this particular case? Answer-2 This particular case fits in to Person perception – making judgement about others based on the attribution theory of perception whereas we judge somebody based on the Internally Or Externally caused behaviour. This determination largely depends upon three factors 1) Distinctiveness 2) Consensus 3) Consistency Question-3: If you were Aaron Moore, would you have asked for additional information before taking a final decision? Answer-3: Yes additional information is required before taking a final decision? Question-4: What additional information would you need? Answer-4:

Question-1: Why are the two reports submitted by Jennifer and Mike so different? Did Jenifer and mike have different perceptions of the same incident?

Answer-1:

Jeniffer has drawn her report based on the fact that Mike performance has been drastically nosedive during the past fifteen months and current incident also indicates his low performance issue (Low Distinctiveness) which comes from Internal Factors.

Answer-2

This particular case fits in to Person perception – making judgement about others based on the attribution theory of perception whereas we judge somebody based on the Internally Or Externally caused behaviour. This determination largely depends upon three factors 1) Distinctiveness 2) Consensus 3) Consistency

Question-3: If you were Aaron Moore, would you have asked for additional information before taking a final decision?

Answer-3:

Yes additional information is required before taking a final decision?

Question-4: What additional information would you need?

Answer-4:

The statement provided by both Jennifer and Mike is not sufficient to draw a conclusion and judgement. If I would be Aaron Moore, I would have asked for witness statements those were present at the incident in order to arrive the “Consensus” of Mike Internal and External behaviour.

Question-5, 6 &7: If you were Aaron Moore, would you have taken the action recommended by Jennifer: Yes No. In either case, give reason to justify your decision. If your answer is to (5) is No, what action would you take.

Answer-5: NO

Jennifer recommends immediate dismissal which would not suit the situation indicated in the paragraph. Jennifer recommendation is more focused on internal factors and fundamental attribution error more focussed on internal behaviour of Mike. She did not consider the other External factors which forced Mike for such incident.
