IN LOVING MEMORY OF
1928 Mary Kathryn Shields 2018
We had to say farewell to our dear friend and sister in Christ, Mary Kathryn Shields on Thursday, February 22nd, shortly after midnight in her bed at Avonlea Cottage, Shawnee. Kathryn was born October 18, 1928 to James Floyd and Lucy Ethel Hoover in Shawnee. Her family moved to New Mexico where she grew up, graduated from High School and married Don D. Shields. After a brief stay in California, she, Don and daughter Donna moved back to Shawnee, where she lived the remainder of her life. Kathryn and Don reared four daughters, Donna, Wanda, Vonda and Brenda and one son, Mickey. She took great pleasure and an active role in all of their activities. Kathryn was a member at the East Main congregation and took her family there every Lord’s day to worship. She became a part of the Central congregation when the two merged and continued active in it until just a couple of weeks before she passed. Kathryn was always concerned about being at every class and service even after she could no longer drive. Not only did she love to study the Bible on her own and with others, she greatly loved to visit other members who were shut in. After Kathryn became a widow she and several other ladies would get together on Saturday mornings to have breakfast, play some games and visit with each other. Kathryn was a diabetic and was very strict to maintain a sugar-free diet. We could always count on her to help out others at potlucks and dinners by bringing a sugar-free dessert. We will greatly miss Kathryn, her steadfastness to the Lord and to His church.
FAMILY NEWS
The Lord is our righteousness. We had a great singing
and potluck this past Sunday. We were down some in
attendance. We still have several out sick and struggling
with health. This weekend the North MacArthur
congregation in Oklahoma City will be hosting a seminar.
Check into online at www.affirmingthefaithok.com We
also have camp planning and VBS planning going on so
please be in prayer for those involved in planning and
leading these important ministries. Again, I want to
remind all of our Elders, Deacons, and Ministers we have
our annual leadership banquet coming up in 2 weeks.
The Highland congregation will be hosting our banquet
on March 9th and the meal will start at 6:30 pm. Please
call the church office and let them know if you are
planning to attend and how many you will be bringing.
Jehovah Tsidkenu
Our next name for God in the Hebrew is Jehovah
Tsidkenu. (ye-ho-vaw' tsid-kay'-noo) Yea, I know, I’m
already practicing how to say it. The meaning is simple to
say; The Lord our Righteousness. The depth of meaning
is vast. What does it mean that the Lord is our righteous-
ness? The name is used in Jeremiah.
"The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteousness.” Jer 23:5-6 NIV
What exactly does it mean that Jehovah is our righteous-
ness? This prophecy given here is about a King being
raised up from David. Could this be a prophecy about
Christ? Join us this Sunday morning and we’ll study it
together as we get to know God better.
See you this Sunday.

Jimmy Hyde

SHAWNEE AREA-WIDE LEADERSHIP
BANQUET
This year the annual Shawnee Area-Wide Leadership Banquet will be hosted by the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh at their building at 905 E. Walnut, Tecumseh. This is for all elders, deacons, ministers and their wives. We will provide a meal. A donation of $10.00 per person would be appreciated. Don’t let that keep anyone from coming though. Wayne Roberts will be presenting some helpful insights for us on how to be better leaders. Wayne Roberts is a minister at the Southwest Church of Christ in OKC. It all starts at 6:30 pm, Friday, March 9th. Please call Central’s church office to RSVP.
