Backed by The Imelda May Band, with special guests Brian Setzer, Gary U.S. Bonds and Trombone Shorty, this intimate concert proves why Jeff Beck is considered one of the greatest guitarists to ever strap on the instrument, and why he is an apt host for an evening devoted to Les Paul, the instrument’s most illustrious innovator. JEFF BECK HONORS LES PAUL is part of special programming premiering on PBS stations beginning November 27 and airing through December 2010 (check local listings ). In addition to a career with a stunning 43 top forty hits, Les Paul is widely credited as the inventor of both the solid-bodied electric guitar and the multi-track recording machine. These innovations, made in the 1940s and 50s, made possible a new generation of music in the 1960s. Honoring Les Paul is the 5-time Grammy winner including Best Rock Instrumental Performance and 2-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Jeff Beck. Jeff and the band play Les Paul classics such as “How High the Moon,” “Mockin’ Bird Hill” and “Bye Bye Blues,” as well as blistering versions of rock-n-roll staples such as “Twenty Flight Rock,” “Peter Gunn,” “Rocking Is Our Business,” “New Orleans,” and the incredible “Walking in the Sand.” Taped at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, where Les Paul took the stage every week from 1995 until his passing in August 2009, this intimate concert features an invite-only, star-studded audience, incredible musicianship, and powerful songs that make for an unforgettable evening.
