Jee Main 2014 analysis by super 30

Top engineering coach Anand Kumar of ‘Super 30’ shares his insight and analysis of JEE Main 2014 Paper 1 here.

Careers360: How was the paper pattern of JEE Main 2014 (offline mode)?

Anand Kumar: The paper of JEE Main 2014 was on expected pattern. But many questions were repeated from the past years’ JEE question paper. This would have immensely helped those students, who had thoroughly solved question bank of past years.

Further, likewise last year’s pattern, each of the 4 sets car-ried a total of 90 questions divided equally in three sections- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The total marks for

the question paper was 360 with 4 marks for each correct answer and negative marking of 1 mark for an incorrect response. There were no marks for un-attempted questions.

Careers360: What was the difficulty level of the JEE Main paper 1?

Anand Kumar: The difficulty level was average and it was similar to JEE main 2013 paper. The questions, however, were a bit lengthy as compared to last year’s paper. As per feedback from my students, Mathamatics was the easiest amongst the three sections – Physics, Chemistry, Maths. Careers360: What was the ratio of questions from 11th and 12th?

Page 4: JEE Main 2014 Paper 1 Analysis – What Experts Say

www.engineering.careers360.com4

Anand Kumar: It was a very ‘balanced paper’ with each of the section covering almost entire syllabus of the respective section. Also, the questions broadly covered both 11th and 12th class syllabus.

Careers360: Please share insight on different sections of JEE Main 2014.

Anand Kumar: Physics was a little tougher as questions were lengthy. But it was more of combination of concepts and formulae. Maths section coverage of syllabus was wide but it was the easiest among the three sections. Chemistry section was average with the questions favouring those, who had thoroughly covered the syllabus, yet questions from organic chemistry were prominent.

Careers360: What is your expected cut-off for JEE Advance 2014?

Anand Kumar: JEE Main 2014 Cutoff for JEE Advance is expected to be somewhere around 120. I hope that those candidates scoring even beyond 110 will be able to make it into the list of 1.5 lakh candidates who will qualify for JEE Advance.

Careers360: What are your tips for JEE Advance preparation?

Anand Kumar: I would suggest students to thoroughly solve last years’ question paper of JEE. This would be a great help to their preparation and strengthen their chances for IITs.
