Transcript of JD Miller CV and Painting Selection
JD Miller
Born in San Diego, California in 1953, JD Miller moved to Texas as a child and spent his early years studying the guitar, trumpet, and piano. Eventually becoming a studio musician by the time he was 18, Miller founded Inside Track Studios, a music syndication studio with clients in 28 states, while still an undergraduate student at the University of North Texas. He went on to study sculpture and ceramics at Texas Women’s University before beginning his professional painting career in 1998.
Exploring the vibrant colors and deft lines of cartoon masters Walt Disney and Walter Lantz formed the early basis of Miller’s visual style. In October 2004, he founded the Reflectionist school, a group of artists whose work mirrors the positive power of life and the universe. Miller's signature technique of 3-D oil painting has become a hallmark of the Reflectionist school and combines chromatic expression with a sculptor’s application of paint to create multidimensional images on canvas. Extensive travels throughout the U.S. continue to influence his subject matter and style – from impressionist landscapes to abstract expressions.
Miller is represented in numerous galleries and museums throughout the United States. He is the recipient of the Dallas Jesuit Museum’s 2009 Artist of the Year Award, the Fashion Group International 2008 Rising Star Award, and is the Official Artist for the 40th Anniversary of Shakespeare Dallas. In his free time, he is involved with numerous educational and charitable organizations. Miller is currently based in and works out of Dallas, Texas.
I call myself a Reflectionist artist because I believe that the universe mirrors each of us in a unique way. My goal as an artist is to interpret that phenomenon, and my art is a multidimensional reflection of life and the way I perceive the world. –JD Miller
