JCI West Indies Celebrates: 100 Years Not Out!

"The challenge of leadership is to be strong but

not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but

not a bully; be humble, but not timid; be proud,

but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly."

Jim Rohn

As JCI marks its 100th year of existence, we want to know how each local organisation is celebrating Project 100. Throughout the year, the newsletter will therefore highlight each local organisation’s activities. Is there a special event that you want covered? Is there a special bit of news your local chapter would like to share? Is your local organistation doing something special for the 100 year celebrations? Then submit an article to the Secretariat so that it can be featured here and on our website.

Let everyone know your local organisation is phenomenal!

JCI WI TOYP Launched Our National arm of JCI TOYP has been launched! Local organisations, do not forget to launch your own local campaigns. The submission of your TOYP candidate to JCI WI is Friday, May 15, 2015. We look forward to your timely submissions. Let’s celebrate our active citizens in our community today! Please contact VP Abena Agard for further information.

World Environment Day The JCI West Indies World Environment Day project has also been launched. The project will be executed on Saturday, June 6, 2015 and each local organisation is expected to run a project focusing on environmental sustainability. This is a great opportunity to collaborate and create sustainable IMPACT in your communities and in our world. Don’t pass up the opportunity! You can read more about WED here. Please also contact VP Kizzy Alfred for further information

2014 JCI West Indies TOYP nominee, Toni Thorne from Barbados (featured above) made it to the top 20 shortlist

…Continued from page 1 JCI Chaconia JCI Chaconia is all about IMPACT! In February, this Local Organisation focused on impacting and retaining current members. It brought 30 persons together for a Games Evening which by all reports was an awesome event. Perhaps the highlight for this quarter was the highly anticipated Event Impact 100 - This orientation and networking event was conducted March 21, 2015 and served to inform the public about the nature of our organization, create networking opportunities and increase membership. Finally JCI Chaconia also hosted VP Abena during the month of March. In addition to having a great time socialising with members, VP Abena also conducted training in JCI Effective Meetings and JCI Effective Communication. JCI Guyana JCI Guyana opened the year with the installation of a dynamic new board and officers’ training. Members were brought together for the annual Barbeque Social in February and a good time was had by all. JCI Guyana also had the opportunity to host IVP Adam Bonerak from March 23-25. Though a short visit, it was certainly an impactful one! IVP Adam visited with state bodies including the CARICOM Secretariat and the National Assembly, but also had the opportunity to train members in JCI Impact and JCI Achieve. ...Continued on next page

Quarterly Takeaway Everyone has a Story in Life A 24 year old young man looking out the train’s window shouted… “Dad, look the trees are going behind!” Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity. Suddenly he again exclaimed… “Dad, look the clouds are running with us!” The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man… “Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?” The old man smiled and said… “I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got the ability to see today.” Takeaway: Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth

may surprise you.

Around the West Indies ...Continued from Page 3 JCI St. Vincent JCI St. Vincent started the year out in the community with its Heritage Day Project. The project was a resounding success. This Local Organisation also made its presence felt in the community even more so recently during the visit of EVP Alexis Murray. During this visit, JCI St. Vincent took the opportunity to meet with government officials and the media, with the aim of furthering its theme for 2015 “Care Connect and Collaborate”. Of course, the visit was not only about business. Members had the opportunity to socialize with the EVP as she enjoyed St. Vincent hospitality. JCI Tobago JCI Tobago started 2015 with a focus on membership. In January, it conducted a New Members’ Orientation which reaped 13 prospective members. Continuing with a similar focus, in March, the Local Organisation hosted its inaugural Appreciation and Handover Ceremony where it honoured persons who were critical in reviving the organization. 11 new members were also inducted. The local chapter has also been busy preparing to create an IMPACT in its community. During this quarter, members were exposed to JCI Impact training. Additionally, by collaborating with A World at School, JCI Tobago members were inspired to advocate and champion issues facing youth within their community

NP Kevin joins Presidents in Panama NP Kevin attended the National Presidents’ Meeting in Panama City from February 4-7 and had a blast! For him, this was one of those true JCI experiences – he worked hard and played harder! Lasting friendships were formed and inspiration to lead to there in abundance. NP Kevin returned to JCI West Indies energized to ensure that 2015 for this NOM will be EPIC!
