There is no doubt that our profession has developed a trueresearch culture in Canada. This is clearly evident by boththe quantity and quality of research being undertaken byour university based researchers and published in ourscholarly scientific literature. Many organizations relyheavily on our scholarly literature to make decisions notonly about the health of Canadians but also the Canadianhealth care system.
Helping the JCCA to set the standards of acceptablescientific publication that meet or exceed the world bio-medical standards are the individuals set out on the follow-ing pages and to whom both I and the profession owe asubstantial and significant debt of gratitude. I simply wantto acknowledge these dedicated individuals and thankthem for their tremendous commitment to our researchliterature which over the years has positioned us in a veryfavourable light.
The JCCA, you will see, relies on academics, research-ers, clinicians, and administrators and is transdisciplinary. There are epidemiologists, sociologists, psychologists, biostatisticians, orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, chiro-practors, radiologists, and historians. In addition, theJCCA also relies on many external reviewers who arecontent experts such as Dr. Ed Owens at Sherman College,Dr. Stu McGill at the University of Waterloo, Dr. CarloAmmendolia and Dr. Mark Erwin at the University ofToronto and many others who lend their expertise to ensur-ing our literature withstands the scrutiny of the scientificcommunity.
At the JCCA each eligible paper submitted for publica-tion is vetted in our peer review process and is typicallyreviewed by 5 reviewers in addition to the Editor. Whenyou think about the time involved in reviewing and re-reviewing each manuscript until we get to that magicmoment of “accepted for publication”– it is absolutelyenormous!
Together the Editorial Board members bring a wealth ofknowledge and experience to our process for which I amtruly very appreciative as Editor.
Our literature is growing as our research capacity grows, and we bring a significant body of new knowledge to thehealth care system. Credible, reliable and defensible
Allan Gotlib BSc, DC
knowledge establishes the foundation of our professionand provides the basis to integrate our knowledge to thebenefit of Canadians at large.
Thank you to our Editorial Board Members for theenormous amount of time devoted to making the JCCAand our literature credible. I simply could not have per-formed my role over the last 20 years as Editor withoutyour expertise and much appreciated guidance.
