FRINGE ON THE TOWNThe Fringe is focussing on your favourite local venues to bring you a selection of the best unsigned talent in a selection of free gigs.

FRINGE ON THE SQUAREJoin us on Thursday 28 April for the opening of this year’s Jazz on the Square. During the Festival the Fringe can be experienced on the Budvar stage and we’ll bring you free music throughout with extended hours in the evenings and an extra full day for Friday’s Bank Holiday.

BBC INTRODUCINGOn Sunday 1 May between 4.40 and 8.20pm Jez Nelson hosts a showcase of the most exciting and creative emerging UK jazz talent on the stage in the gardens. Radio 3’s flagship contemporary jazz show, Jazz on 3, has teamed up with BBC Introducing to provide a platform for rising artists at the heart of the festival. Rachel Musson’s Skein, The Discordian Trio, Saltwater Samurai and Trish Clowes will be performing sets recorded for broadcast on Jazz on 3 and a range of shows across the BBC Radio Network.www.bbc.co.uk/music/introducing

LUND QUARTETSlak Bar, doors at 8pmLund Quartet are a Bristol based instrumental band, exploring the musical ground between Jazz and HipHop. The traditional jazz piano trio is augmented with a turntablist, scratching samples recorded especially for the band by some of Bristol’s finest musicians. lundquartet.com

AMY SPENCER AND THE HUNDEESThe Swan, 7pmGentle melodies and beautiful vocals from Cheltenham’s young singer-songwriter Amy Spencer. 2011 sees the return of Jazz on the Square, our exciting outdoor Festival experience in Imperial Gardens. It’s a great place to get immersed in the Jazz Festival experience, with free music, entertainment, a jazz market as well as food stalls and a fully licensed bar.

Budvar Stage A huge variety of performers from headline acts to school bands, all for FREE.

Jazz Arena The purpose built Arena will host an array of main programme headliners and rising stars. Check out cheltenhamfestivals.com/jazz for details.

Food & Drink Stalls The Square will come alive, with tantalising tastes from around the world, to local produce, with plenty of Budvar, cocktails and more...

Jazz Stalls A variety of stall-holders will be selling their wares, and local retailer Rise Records will be manning a CD stall and hosting special artist signings.
