This project called for a renovation of an existing public library in the Clifton area of Cincinnati, Ohio. Adding more storeys, community spaces and ADA accesability were the main priorities of the program.

There is a large population in the clifton area; apart from the student population at University of Cincinnati, and there seems to be a lack of public resources. The current library is one story and has about 300 books; not nearly enough to do good research.

The design concept derived from books. The over all shape of the building looks like a book that is laying on its spine. The cuts in the floor plans are intened to be a representation of dog ear tabs made when marking a page on a book.

Grid it Out Germantown, OhioThis project was for my Capstone studio. The site was an old, rundown electric power plant adjacent to a railroad in German-town, Ohio. It was the desire of our clients to convert this 1890’s industrial building into a family residence; while preserving the intergity of the south, east, and west walls and a light monitor situated in the center of the structure. Reading the surrounding site brought the idea of a grid. The grid of the streets, alleyways and the train tracks were the guide for the design.

Completion time: 6 weeks

I created a contrast between the old structure and the new; I decided to leave the old structure with its brick face, that had character and history and make the new structure a white smooth-concrete that will in turn make a stricking and com-pelling contrast with the brick.

“In ancient times we lived with the Wilderness, fighting against its severity and its roughness, and receiving the benefits of its fer-tility. The wildness of nature was directly related to our lives. In our current age, we live in cities.” Suggest a house in the Wilder-ness, in which we modern-age humans can feel both the richness and the toughness of the Wilderness, and sense our relationship to it.

For my design I chose Kasese, Uganda as the site, for its beautiful, open savannah landscapes. Its ample solar radiance allows for the implementation of photovoltaics. Glazing on the East, South and West gives the resident abundant views into the open. The deck-ing is hung from the roof in order to retract it if there is a heavy storm, and gives a sence of protection.

Building Trust HOME competition

Callaghan, AustraliaA HOME for the home-less. The main idea for this HOME is to be able to become modular; moving the containers into different positions as needed.

I choose the site with in the New Castle Univer-sity so that the habitant could have a opportunity to work within the univ-eristy and restart his/her life again

Population: 200.000+Taxable Income $28,000

Design for the homeless Ideally the site for my design would be within New Castle University's campus. For 2 main reasons

+Creates a job opportunity for the dwell-er within the university, a way to get back on their feet and start recreating their life. +Architecture students at the university could participate in the construction and gather experience in pre-fabrication design.

Shipping containers cost between $2,000 and 5,000They can easily be shipped to the site and the interior finishes can be pre-fabricated in a ware-house before being put in place.

This was a two stage project. The first stage was to re-design a pe-destrian bridge that connects the urban context of Dayton with a public park that divides the Great Miami river (north west heading) and the Mad river (east heading)

I explored the ability of Corten steel to conform as a exterior shell to any surface, and thus created a corkscrew shape that functions as a visual for the connection of city to park.

Human beings have a history of landscape alteration: pyramids, aqueducts, and defor-estation. Modern lifestyles are made pos-sible by industries throughout the world, but we take them for granted. The natural world is transformed by industry, particularly those that extract raw materials and resourc-es from the land.

What happens when industry leaves sub-stantial marks on the earth?

The charge is to design a building com-plex for an institution devoted primarily to visual, literary, landscape and performing artists, engaging the site in a significant way commensurate with the size, scale and emotional impact of the quarry.

A set of walking, jogging, biking trails (marked on the site plan) encompass the site. that demand exploration from the northern de-ciduous forest to the southern hill top tha over looks both the quarry and the city from afar; the neigh-boring quarries and the islands that split Wells-lamson quarry

A way to experience the entire quarry from mulitple perspectives.Letting one explore and dis-cover the history of place. The abandoned equipment dispersed throughout; and the scras on the granite surface make intriguing art forms. The project looks to cre-ate architecture that is not about object or space but about making unique places and events

y I recently came across HDR photography and decided to give it a try. High Dynamic Range photography is essentially a way of processing images that allows for a wider and deeper range of colors by changing the exposure. It gives the image more detail in both the dark and light areas.

These photographs are not the originals; they were post-processsed with photomatrix; a program used to create HDR photos.
