Fruit or the lack thereof is a manifestation of our interior life and health. It describes and reveals whether we are living connected or disconnected lives. Fruit production is the natural consequence of stay-ing connected. You can see that in long-term friend-ships, marriages, community loyalty. We do not choose whether or not we produce fruit. We do, how-ever, choose where we abide and how we stay con-nected.

You know how that is. Sometimes we lose touch with a particular person. We no longer know where he or she is, what she is doing, or what is hap-pening in her life. One day we run into him or her. It’s a bit awkward. No one is sure what to say. There’s not much to talk about. There was no deep abiding presence, the connection is lost, and it seems as if what was has been thrown away. Other people we run into after five or ten years and the conversa-tion immediately picks up where we left off those many years ago. Even though we were apart we nev-er left each other. There was and remains a connec-tion and mutual abiding that time, distance, and the circumstances of life cannot sever.

It is not about the quantity of our lives but the quality of our lives. That’s what Jesus is after. That is the deeper question he is ask-ing. It is the invitation to join the conversation, jump into the game, to participate, and to live fully alive. That only happens when the life, the love, and the goodness and holiness of Christ flow in us. We become an extension of and manifest his life, love, and holiness. It is a relation-ship of union even as a branch is united to the vine. We live our lives as one. This is not just about relationship with Jesus; it affects and is the basis for our relationships with one another. Love for Jesus, one another, and ourselves become one love. We soon discover we are living one life and the fruit of that life and love is abundant, overflow-ing, and Father glorifying.

No elegimos si producimos fruta o no. Sin embar-go, elegimos dónde permanecemos y cómo nos mante-nemos conectados.

Dear Parish Family,

The word "remain" fills today's readings: remain on the vine, in Jesus, and allow his words to remain in us. One meaning of remain is to stay in the same place with the same person or group. We stay on the vine by staying with Jesus and those who belong to him. In that way we invite his words to stay within us. Our relationship with him will bear the fruit of living his commandments, so others can see that we remain in him and he remains in us.

In today's world, I worry about how we are sharing this with our young people. Do we invite them to stay with Jesus, to continue to learn and experience Him? I see so many young people struggling to "fit" into the society around them. We have a program here at the Church to help our young teens get to know Christ and how to "remain" with Him. It is our Youth Ministry program that meets on Friday evenings. I have heard so many youth say they would like to go, but their parents do not feel it is benefiting them. Listen today to Christ's words. How are you helping your young people stay in tune with Christ? I invite you to look into the program with open minds and hearts and encourage your youth to become involved in the life of the Church.

Have a blessed week,

Sr. Karen Collier

To build and foster a Christian Community that offers

the opportunity to experience God’s unconditional love

and acceptance to all who come into contact with it.

Hermana Karen Collier

Please join the S.H.A.R.E. Ministry in praying for the repose of the soul of our beloved brother LAR-RY FELDMAN and for his family DOREEN AND PJ as they continue

their journey without him. Larry spent many a Christmas day making sure that our guests dur-ing the dinner had a music for a joyful celebration.

MOTHER'S DAY

HOT MEAL FOR

THE LADIES

Blessings,

5/5—V. Rachel Juarez 5/12—Mother’s Day Hot Meal for the Ladies

As the month continues, the parents of our First Communion Year 2 students will accompany them for a day of retreat and reflection. These retreats really are a wonderful expression of God’s love, as parents and children spend a day together in prayer, reflection, but most importantly sharing of their faith experience. We truly appreciate the parent’s dedication and love for their children in participating in this day with them. Please keep them in prayer these next couple of weeks.

Since 1978, our schools and communities have been robbed of over $100 Billion because of a corporate tax loophole in Proposition 13.

Prop 13

Allowed the wealthiest corporations who are earning record profits to stop paying their fair share of taxes.

Starved schools and communities of money.

Drove CA’s investments in schools down from #1 in the country to #41 today.

Catalyzed cycles of poverty and incarceration in communi-ties of color.

Starting today and for the next couple of weekends, L.A VOICE members we will be taking signatures to amend proposition 13. For more information please take a flyer. We need volunteers for the English mass. Thank you.
