Over the course of the semester, students come to see the relationship between Reading the text Responding to and Interpreting it Discussing it in class Writing about it

That students appreciate the challenges involved in textual interpretation and

Develop strategies for reading and interpreting in meaningful ways

Texts embody cultural values and Are products of their time and place Students should be open and receptive

to the material we are reading in the class and

Have moments of “passionate engagement” with these texts.
