Information Meeting
Objectives
• Students advance their language abilities
• Students experience Japanese culture
• Students share their lives with the Gakushuin community
• Students share their experience with the St. Paul’s community
• Foster long-term relationships
• Having a positive attitude
Basic Information
• June 1st (Saturday) – June 23rd (Sunday)
• Applications due December 1st
• Decisions made by December 31st
• Up to 5 students
• Cost ($2500)
• What’s not included
• Host Families
Host Families
• Chosen by Gakushuin
• Requires you to travel by train, subway, and/or bus with host brother
• Experiences will be different according to the family
• Chance to be part of a Japanese household
• If there are problems, Gakushuin and St. Paul’s will help resolve it
Travel within Tokyo
• Shrines, temples, and museums
• Akihabara – “electric town”
• Ginza
• Fish market
• Imperial Palace
• Other places chosen by the teachers or upon request
Behavior
• You are representing the school
• What is allowed/not allowed
• At the host family
• At school
• Perception/Cultural Difference
Side Trips
• Two nights in Kyoto
– Stay at a ryokan, a temple, or a hotel
– Visit shrines, museums, temples, etc
– Tours given by friends
– Travel by shinkansen
• Day Trip to Nara
– Home of the biggest DAIBUTSU in Japan
– Deer running around town
• Day trip to Mt. Fuji

• We will meet 3-4 times before the trip (orientation night and language nights)
