Sapporo snow festival

The Sapporo snow festival is held in early February in Hokkeudos capital sapporo .It is one of their most popular winter festivals. It started in 1950 , in it they make snow statues .

Kamakawa festival

The Kamakawa festival has a history of about 400 years! Its held in Yokote in the 15 and 16 of February. They have many igloo like snow houses called Kamakura. At 18:00 to 21:00 children invite people into their Kamakura and give them rice cakes !

Takayama festival

The Takayama festival is one of the three most beautiful festivals in Japan alongside Kyoto festival and Chicibu yomatsuri .Its held on April the 14 and 15 and October the 9 and 10 . The April festival is called the Sanno festival and the October festival is known as the Henchman festival .

There about 160 species of mammals in japan,700 species of birds and 32,000 species of insects . One of the mammals you will be looking at is called a Japanese Serow (Goat-antelope) they live in dense woodland.

Plum Blossoms grow in Japan and they are one type of blossom tree. Hydrangeas are also a type of plant that grows in Japan it’s a type of flower.

Japan are very fond of growing Hydrangeas and plum blossom tree . Their Flowers are Both Pink.

Samurai They were ancient Japanese warriors and they wore ancient armor and masks and, ancient swords called katanas.

The point of a samurai sword (a katana) is called the kissaki. It is the hardest part to forge and often determines the overall quality.

A sumo wrestler’s belt is called a mawashi and they wear them in training or competitions.

Sumo began many centuries ago and formed into it’s present form in the Edo Period (1603-1868).

Sumo wrestlers used to be all Japanese, in recent years there have been more and more foreign wrestlers.

Karate In Karate when you are thrown to the floor there is a certain amount of time before you lose. Karate is a traditional fighting sport in Japan. Karate is a traditional sport originated in China, but developed in mainland Japan. Karate uses no weapons but relies on three basic body movements: thrusts kicks and arm strikes. Karate fighters each have different levels, alternated into coloured belts. Black belt with three dams is the highest level.

Clothing

A traditional garment is a kimono. A kimono is a dress type thing wrapped around the body. A

kimono is made of silk and the sleeves reach to the feet! They

only wear them on special occasions. A Samurai’s clothing is made out of leather, fabric and a

bit of metal. Samurai warriors wore kimonos as they don’t exist anymore. The men wear a robe

called a Haori and under a Hakana.
