Sincerely,

Bounce back from the holidaysHaving two weeks off for winter

break gives teachers and students anice break right in the middle ofthe school year.

But getting back in groove onceschool starts can be tough after sev-eral days of late bedtimes and avariety of fun activities with friendsand family.

Don’t worry your teachers andprincipals struggle with this too. Soto help everyone get back in a solidroutine, here are three simple stepsto help make the transition back toschool an easy one for everyone oncamps:

GET SOME SLEEP – “Early tobed, early to rise makes you healthy, wealthy and wise.” What? Well, basically, your brain needs torecharge every night, much like acell phone or a video game console. In order to cope well with ademanding school day you’ve got torecharge your own “battery” in yourhead.

The only way your brain canrecharge is by sleeping. A student’s

brains need about 9-10 hours ofsleep every night. By going to bedearly, around 8:30 p.m. at least, you should get enough sleep.

EAT BREAKFAST – Most of useat dinner every night around 6:30or 7 p.m. so, by morning, yourstomach has been empty for 12 ormore hours. That’s a long time! When you wake up your brainknows one thing for sure - it’s hun-gry, even though you may not thinkyou are.

Breakfast is the most importantmeal of your day because it givesyou the nutrients you need to getgoing right from the start. A goodbreakfast is necessary for yourbrain to work properly too.Breakfast doesn’t have to be fancyor heavy, but it does need to behealthy. Try skipping cookies orsweets for a bowl of oatmeal orwhole-grain cereal.

Kids can even prepare their ownhealthy breakfast by themselves. One example is a peanut butter andjelly sandwich with a big glass of

milk. And if you’re short on time, grab some fruit and a granola bar.You will be amazed how much eas-ier those morning quizzes are whenyou eat healthy before school!

START YOUR ROUTINEEARLY – Have a set routine everymorning and give yourself enoughtime to execute it. Not having todeal with making decisions, likewhat shirt to wear with yourfavorite jeans, or searching for yourschool work because you don’tremember where you put it willmake your day get off to a greatstart.

Set your clothes and shoes outbefore going to bed. Check yourhomework and make sure yourbackpack is ready for another dayas soon as you finish it. Mostimportantly, finish each part ofyour routine before moving on tothe next one. By giving yourselfenough time to do each morningtask, and completing each one inan organized manner, you won’tfeel rushed or frustrated.

Having a good day at school maysound like an easy thing to do, butif you don’t prepare in the rightways, you may find your days areanything but good! Follow thesethree simple steps everyday andyou will give your brain a huge

boost, give your body the energy itneeds to complete a fun school dayand get you back on a winning rou-tine and finish the school yearstrong.
