FELLOWSHIP MESSENGER Dave’s Devotional

It is hard to believe that the season of Lent is approaching very soon. As I have done over the past few years, I will be offering a Lenten study following worship in the Fellowship Building. We will call upon our participants to help prepare a lunch for our group gathered. During this season of Lent we will enjoy another study from Adam Hamilton. Together we will explore the major themes in the Gospel of John. This six-week study is entitled: John: The Gospel of Light and Life. We will begin our session by viewing a short video from Hamilton (typically 10-15 minutes) where Hamilton shares insights with a small group. This video segment will lead us into our discussion and study for the rest of our time together. Our topics and dates for these sessions are:

1. The Word Made Flesh (Sunday, February 11th) YOUTH LUNCH THIS DAY 2. The Miraculous Signs of Jesus (Sunday, February 25th) 3. The "I Am" Sayings of Jesus (Sunday, March 4th) 4. The Farewell Discourse (Sunday, March 11th) 5. The Arrest, Trial, and Crucifixion of the King (Sunday, March 18th) 6. Eternal Life (Sunday, March 25th)

On Sunday, February 11, there is also a Youth Lunch this day and the Lenten Study will begin after the Youth Lunch. We will not have a session on February 18th due to the fact we are hosting the Day of Prayer Lovefeast Service at Christ Moravian Church. A sign up sheet will be appearing on the Church Family Life bulletin board very soon.

News From the Leadership Board The Leadership Board met on December 11 at 7 PM in the Fellowship Building. Committee reports were given and the following was discussed: • The Church Office is under contract and the buyer’s appraisal

is scheduled for December 12 and the buyer’s home inspection is scheduled for December 14. The buyer has offered the full asking price of $289,000.

• After receiving three bids for our future construction project and much discussion, Green Construction Company was awarded the project.

Our next meeting will be Monday, January 8th at 7 PM in the Fellowship Building. (The January 8 meeting was cancelled due to weather and has been rescheduled for Monday, February 12th at 7 PM in the Fellowship Building.) Women’s Fellowship News The Women’s Fellowship Executive Board met on Saturday, January 13, at 10 AM in the Fellowship Building. The Women’s Fellowship General Meeting will be Sunday, January 21, after worship in the Fellowship Building. Women’s Fellowship Quarterly Circle #3 will meet on Monday, January 22, at 6:30 PM at the home of Jo Brown with dinner provided. Please continue to bring in Salemtowne bingo prizes as often as possible. There is a box in the hall behind the sanctuary. Marvelous Moravians MARVELOUS MORAVIANS MEETING – The Marvelous Moravians met on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11 AM in the Fellowship Building to plan activities for the upcoming year.

MARVELOUS MORAVIANS – The Marvelous Moravians would like to invite you to “Lunch and a Movie” on Tuesday, February 13, at 11 AM in the Fellowship Building. The movie to be shown is Hidden Figures. (Three brilliant African-American women at NASA -- Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson -- serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.) We will also have a catered BBQ lunch from Pig-N-Out in Lewisville. To help defray the cost for lunch, we will be charging $5.00 per person. If you are interested in attending, a sign-up sheet has been posted on the CHURCH FAMILY LIFE Bulletin Board.

Regional Conference of Churches (RCC) Update On January 20, the Petersbrook RCC will host a pancake breakfast from 8-10 AM in the Fellowship Building of Christ Moravian Church to benefit Anthony’s Plot and their problem with lead abatement. Biking Group Schedule The Biking Group will meet on the following dates at 1 PM at the Greenway behind Marketplace Mall to go riding:

CHICKEN PIES – The ladies of the Women’s Fellowship will be making chicken pies on Wednesday, February 21. They will be making 9” pies ($10.00) and 5” pies ($5.00). If you would like to place an order, a sign up sheet will be posted on the CHURCH FAMILY LIFE Bulletin Board beginning February 4. The last day to sign up is Sunday, February 18.

CHICKEN STEW TO BENEFIT RAY OF HOPE – We would like to announce a chicken stew fundraiser to benefit the Ray of Hope orphanage in Kenya, Africa. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the CHURCH FAMILY LIFE Bulletin Board for pre-orders for chicken stew by the quart (TAKE OUT ONLY) at a cost of $10 per quart. On Saturday, February 3, between 3 - 6 PM, you may pick up your pre-order(s) at the Fellowship Building.

CE Committee Report: The CE Committee did not meet in November or December. The next CE meeting will be Sunday, January 14, following the service. (At the January 14 meeting, Sabrina Maksi was again elected CE Chair. Items discussed were the Thunderbirds Hockey Game; Youth Lunch on February 11 and March 11; Pine Needle Sale on March 3 and 10; and CPR classes.)

YOUTH LUNCH – A “Soup and Salad” lunch is planned for Sunday, February 11, after worship in the Fellowship Building. There is no charge for lunch, but a love offering will be collected to help the youth with their programs and missions.

THUNDERBIRDS HOCKEY GAME – If you are interested in attending a hockey game, the CE Committee invites all those interested to attend the Winston-Salem Thunderbirds Hockey game on Sunday, February 11, at 4 PM at the Coliseum Annex. A sign-up sheet has been posted on the CHURCH FAMILY LIFE Bulletin Board. Tickets for the hockey game are $15 and include admission, a box of popcorn, hot dog and soda, as well as group recognition during the game.
