Sheffield Mencap aims to improve the

quality of lives for people with learning

disabilities and their family carers.

The group helps members develop

greater independence, make friends,

increase confidence, find a job or have

a fulfilling day through the different

courses and projects that it runs.

There are many opportunities available

ranging from cooking, arts and crafts,

sports, drama and gardening. Members

can also cook vegetables grown by the

‘Muddy Footprints’ gardening group.

In 2018, Mencap Sheffield received

household cleaning products, toiletries,

Christmas decorations, batteries, a

toaster, vacuum and espresso maker,

amongst many other items to run their

services and give to beneficiaries.

Stripey Stork

Photos and case studies featured in this report are for internal use only.

Stripey Stork are a baby bank who

support families in need by providing

items for children up to 16 years.

The majority of their products are for

babies and toddlers, however older

children and teenagers also benefit

from clothes and school bags.

They collect a mixture of new and pre-

loved items and distribute to families

most in need via a referral network

made up of health professionals,

social workers, hospitals, children’s

centres and others.

Stripey Stork orders a wide range of

products from In Kind Direct. Toiletries

in particular are used for pamper

packs for mothers; they also make up

special bags for Mother’s Day for

women who may not receive a present.

The charity notably received nappies,

push chairs, high chairs and toys

which it has distributed to its

beneficiaries.

Being able to give new

branded products to

beneficiaries creates a real

sense of self-worth and that

they are cared for…

We make up hospital bags for

pregnant homeless women,

with essential toiletries, as

many are worried about not

fitting in when they go to

hospital.
