Grading

The coin market is speculative and unregulated. Many areas ofnumismatics lend themselves to third party grading and authenti-cation. Such certification does not eliminate all risks associated withthe grading of coins and currency. Grading is a subjective matter and opinions as to the grade of a certified or uncertified item candiffer. Items graded by the various services carry the guarantees, if any, of that particular service. Securing performance on any suchguarantee is strictly between the purchaser and the particular gradingservice. Coast to Coast may or may not agree with the gradeassigned by the particular grading service. Buyer should be awarethat grading standards of coins have changed from time to time in the past and may do so again in the future.

1804 $21/2 Gold CoinPCGS. AU-53 • 14 Star Reverse

1804 is the sexiest date in American numismatics as mostdenominations bearing this date are quite rare. The 1804 dollar is legendary. The mintage on this $2 1/2 was a mere 3,327 coinswith an estimated 150 to 200 survivors. A few were struck with a 13 star reverse but only about 10 are known. This 14 Starexample is exceptional for the grade. The strike is even and sharp and the surfaces retain considerable mint luster. The eye appeal is excellent and is enhanced by an absence of adjustment markswhich are typically found on this issue.
