OnlineTutoringandHomeworkHelp:
Wenatchee High School has partnered with an online tutoring service to provide students with another opportunity for 1-on-1 homework help. This service allows students to work with a tutor at any time during the day or night (24/7). The service provides support for over 40 subject areas including all AP courses, and you will find that Spanish speaking tutors are available in math, science and social studies.
When students login to the service, the amount of time they work with a tutor is deducted from the total hours that we have purchased. The time deducted is the same regardless of the subject area students choose, or the time of day students are accessing the service. So, we ask that the time is used wisely.
The service may be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone and all correspondence is recorded within their system for the purpose of student safety.
If you and/or your student is interested, use the following login information to begin.
The website address is: www.tutor.com/whs
Username: seven-digit student ID number -- Example: 0403154
Password: seven-digit student ID number -- Example: 0403154
Messages from the WHS Career Center
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has provided information on their scholarships that support children of Marines or Navy Corpsmen. Students who are pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited school – whether that be a career training or trade school, community college, or four-year university - are eligible to apply. These scholarships are need-based and are awarded to every eligible applicant. For more information about eligibility requirements and the application timeline for this scholarship program, go to www.mcsf.org/apply. Mark your calendars for scholarship presentations coming up in the new year! All WHS seniors are invited to attend Tuesday Mentor Nights, from 6-8 pm in the WHS Library and Career Center. Here’s what’s on the calendar for January 2019:
Jan. 8 Washington State Opportunity Scholarship presentation. Focused on STEM majors, this scholarship opens Jan. 1. Jan. 15 Wenatchee Valley College Foundation Scholarship presentation for students who will attend WVC. This scholarship application is now open. Jan. 22 “Scholarships 101” This presentation by Mrs. Johnson, WHS Mentor Coordinator, will walk you through the scholarship process and cover information on all four major local scholarships. Jan. 29 College Bound Scholarship presentation. Find out how the scholarship you signed up for in Middle School really works.
If your student’s plan is to attend Central Washington University, an admissions representative will be in the Career Center from 1-5 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 9, to help complete or start the application. For students who apply on this date the application fee may be waived.
Sign up for the Career Center Remind notifications. Text @mrspphill to 81010 or go to rmd.at/mrspphill. Get updates on scholarships, reminders on application due dates, and notification of upcoming events. Don’t get left out – join now!
News from the Homework Center…
The Homework Center is beginning a new paper-editing service, allowing us to help students remotely. If you have students that would benefit from this extra editing assistance, they can share their google doc or email their paper to [email protected]. One of our tutors, who specialize in English, will make editing comments within the next two Homework Center days (we are open Monday through Thursday). The purpose of this service is to refine students writing skills. We will not complete the assignment for them.
