Feast of The Presentation of the Lord February 2
This feast occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus
and is also known as Candlemas day.
Almighty ever-living God, we humbly implore your
majesty that, just as your Only Begotten Son was
presented on this day in the Temple in the substance
of our flesh, so, by your grace, we may be presented
to you with minds made pure. Through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Pope Tweets
@Pontifex
In today’s society, in which forgiveness is so rare,
mercy is ever more important.
January 22, 2016
From the Pastor’s Desk
Last Sunday, approximately 120 people attended the talk given by Fr. J. Bryan Hehir on “Pope Francis and the Church’s Social Ministry.” As usual, Fr. Hehir gave concise and incisive observations of Francis’ pastoral views of the mission of the Church and his goals in reshaping its governing structure. Many thanks to Fr. Hehir and to all those who helped to organize the event!
This weekend we begin the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. We are happy to welcome students
and parents from our school community to our Family Mass at 9:00 a.m. A combined parish-school choir will
lead music for the celebration. We are blessed to be able to continue the work of education and formation
begun in 1901 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
On another note – I am hoping to be away from the parish (barring a snow storm or another
unplanned disaster) next week. Therefore, there will be no morning 8:00 a.m. Mass for the weekdays,
including Saturday. The weekend Mass schedule is not affected. Thank you.

How Full is Your Cup?
The Cup of Our Life Series Sunday Mornings Beginning February 21 This Lent, revitalize and enrich your
relationship with God. Through small groups and
Joyce Rupp’s book, The Cup of Our Life: A Guide for
Spiritual Growth, we will see how the ordinary cups
that we use each day can become sacred vessels that
connect us with life and draw us ever closer to God.
Sessions will explore how the cup is a rich symbol of
our own lives, with its emptiness and fullness, its
brokenness and flaws, and all of its blessings. Each
weekly theme, such as the chipped cup, the cup of
compassion or the blessing cup, becomes a teacher of
prayer.
This Lenten series will meet 10:15 - 11:15 a.m.
Sunday mornings, on February 21 and 28, March 6,
13, and 20, April 3, and May 1. The Cup of Our Life
book costs $16.95 and can be purchased at
AveMariaPress.com, Amazon.com, or at your local
bookstore. To register, please email or call Anna
Molettieri at [email protected] or

Dinner and Discussion
Becoming a Parish of Mercy This Sunday, January 31, 6:00 p.m.
At our dinner last November, we discussed how we
can become a parish of mercy. Our shared
conversations were insightful and compelling. We
identified many needs in our community that we can
and should respond to. Join us for a light supper as
we continue the discussion on how to put into practice
Pope Francis’ and the Lord’s call to be merciful. Call
or email Bob Flaherty at 617-547-4235 x 15,
[email protected] Too Busy for Prayer?
Learn from St. Francis de Sales Sunday, February 7, 10:15 a.m., Parish Center
Everyone of us needs half an hour of prayer each
day, remarked St. Francis de Sales, except when we
are busy—then we need an hour.
Please join us on February 7th from 10:15 – 11:15
a.m. in the Parish Center for an introduction to St.
Francis de Sales (1567 -1622) and a brief, simple,
uplifting model for daily prayer and meditation based
on his “inspired common sense” writings, led by
parishioner Margie Materazzo. Salesian Spirituality
is a practical everyday spirituality for living in the
modern world.
Francis de Sales wrote for the laity in a heartfelt,
encouraging voice, addressing issues that women and
men faced every day. He was known for his mercy,
gentleness and joyful disposition! His words are as
relevant today as they were when he wrote them.
We will be referencing Set Your Heart Free, by
Francis de Sales (John Kirvan, Editor), a guidebook
to 30 days of prayer based on Francis’ writings. This
book is in an easy-to-read format offering a brief
daily reading and a short meditation. Books will be
available for purchase at the meeting. Please RSVP to
Margie at [email protected] or Anna at
[email protected] or 617-547-
4235 x17 so that we can plan for enough materials.
A follow-up session will be planned for participants
to offer reflections on their use of the guidebook and
their experience with prayer.
Scripture Study Continues Begins Wednesday, February 3, 7 p.m.
We will continue our study of the Gospel of Luke on
February 3rd. The dates for the study are 2/3, 2/17,
2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16. We meet in the parish center 7-
8:30 p.m. If you are interested in joining the group for
the second half of the study, please contact Anna
Molettieri at 617-547-4235 x17 or
[email protected] to sign up and
receive the materials for the study.
