Bless us all, O Lord, we pray, for loved ones, here and

near, and far away. And everyone for whom we pray. Keep

us safe each night and day, the homeless who have no

place to stay. Those who are suffering in any way. The

dying, those mourning or grieving and all who need God's

mercy. Keep us safe, Heavenly Father, when we are at

home, or travelling on our way, or when we are

vulnerable, or in danger in any way. Most merciful

Father, hear us as we pray for the souls in Purgatory, or

who may be sent there some day.

PASTOR’S CORNER Luke makes it clear that Jesus, from the very beginning, is

obedient to the Law of Moses. The law of Moses was God’s

plan in the Old Testament for the salvation of the Jewish

people. Jesus is God’s plan in the New Testament for the

salvation of all people. This offering of two pigeons tells us

that Joseph and Mary are poor. He was born in a stable

Nazareth, far from Jerusalem the center of wealth and power.

Old people around the church reminds me of Simon and Anna.

They both were waiting for Jesus. We are a busy and impatient

people. We expect instant gratification and hate to be kept

waiting. We know that “Anything worth having is worth

working for.” We need also to learn that “Anything worth

having is worth waiting for.” Our life is one mad rush to get

from one wait to another, from one line to another.

There are sayings which we have all heard: “Good things come

to those who wait” and “Some things are worth waiting for.”

If good things come to those who wait, is there anything you

would be willing to wait your entire life for? It would have to

be something good, right? God works in a time zone where a

day is a thousand years. When our dreams do not come true in

a day, we need to keep in mind that God is still at work, still

wrapping the package, still preparing the gift to fit our needs

and preparing us for the gift. We need to pray, not just for the

gift, but also for patience to wait for God’s unveiling.

Para experimentar a Dios que está con nosotros, tenemos que

ir por una "experiencia desierta" como San Juan Bautista, que

era una voz en el desierto que anunciaba la venida del Señor

(Mk 1: 3). No quiero decir que debamos ir a un desierto

físico, sino a cualquier lugar donde podamos estar a solas con

ciertas ayudas. Lo primero es la simplicidad. En nuestra

ajetreada vida, nos encanta fácilmente lo que es bonito,

plástico y superficial. Para orar, tenemos que deshacernos de

este exceso de equipaje, porque nos bloquea el camino a

Cristo y ver las cosas como son. La segunda ayuda es el

silencio. Necesitamos estar quietos, para ser curados de

nuestros espíritus perturbados. Necesitamos un lugar de

tranquilidad para calmar nuestros nervios y escuchar a Dios

hablar. La tercera ayuda es la soledad. No podemos permitir

ser impulsados por un instinto para actuar, producir y hacer

muchas cosas. A veces tenemos en soledad para descubrir

quiénes somos y quién es nuestro Dios. Durante este

Adviento, por lo tanto, necesitamos entrar en una experiencia

simbólica del desierto, para experimentar a Dios, que ya está

aquí entre nosotros. "Aquí estoy contigo", dice Dios, "y

sigues pensando en mí, hablando de mí, con tu lengua y

buscándome en tus libros! ¿Cuándo te callarás y verás?"

Muchos de nosotros estamos buscando en otro lugar una vida

mejor, cuando en realidad estamos viviendo en el océano de

la presencia de Dios, que es la dicha misma! ¡Miremos,

busquemos, encontremos y vivamos en Su presencia!

the Wise Men (also sometimes called the Three Kings) who

Registered Parishioners of St. Thomas the Apostle, to call

• Have recently registered with the church and have not received your offertory envelopes.

• We encourage all new parishioners to register in the parish. Those moving out of the parish are

Priest Care Fund Special Collection

January 9-10, 2021

“A Lifetime of Service Asks for a Moment of Support” The patron saint of priests, Saint John Vianney, once wrote

“the priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.” A priest’s

love also extends to the Catholic faithful as they lead

parishes, teach and preach the Gospel, and offer the

Sacraments.

As faithful Catholics we have an opportunity to return to

them, in love, a sense of security in their retirement years

by making a gift to the Priest Care Fund. One hundred

percent of the money donated to the Priest Care Fund

special collection remains in the Diocese of Fort Worth to

provide medical and long-term care over and above what is

covered by our priests’ insurance and other resources.

Last year, more than $254,000 was collected to offset

medical expenses for retired and infirm priests in the

Diocese of Fort Worth. Please respond in love for their

years of generous service by donating to the Priest Care

Fund. There are several ways to contribute to this special

collection. In addition to the Sunday collection during

weekend Masses on January 9 and 10, donations can also

be made through your parish online giving portal or

honoring our retired priests’ lifetime of service.

Keeping the Promise Alive Renewal Sessions

10:00 AM Saturday, January 9, 2021

Renewal session are only available to those that previously

completed a “Protecting God’s Children” Virtus session.

You can also renew by attending a “Protecting God’s

Children” session if you prefer.

Anyone, 18 years or older, that is involved in a church

ministry, or takes part in a church organization, must have

a current Safe Environment certificate.

Two Virtus “Keeping the Promise Alive” renewal sessions

are 10:00 AM Saturday January 9, 2021 in St Thomas the

Apostle Education Building. One session is in English, one

is in Spanish. (Be on time, late arrivals will not receive

credit. No children, bring water, wear face covering)

To enroll, 1) key in this link https://fwdioc.org/safe-

environment, 2) Select the button for “Training Sessions

(Adult & Teen)”, and 3) Complete the online enrollment

process for the session that you wish to attend. Be sure to

select the “Renewal -Keeping the Promise Alive” when

registering.

Guardians Wanted! The “Guardian” Ministry volunteers

make our parish a safer place. (Along

the line of a “Guardian” Angel)

Guardian Ministry members help

direct parishioners to safety, see and

report unusual activity/behavior,

deescalate or neutralize threat. They receive specialized

training, carry two-way radios, and other equipment.

Candidates should be fit.

Armed Guardians are members of the Guardian

Ministry that passed a multi-step vetting and training

process that allow them to carry a concealed weapon. They

blend in with the faithful and are prepared to deescalate

any potential violent situation or neutralize a threat that

cannot be deescalated or controlled. Their role is similar

to sky marshals that protect air travelers.

Medical professionals help when a health emergency

occurs and are part of the Guardian Team assigned to each

Mass.

If you are interested in making our church safer, please

2184 x103) with your contact information, the role for

which you are applying, and your “usual” Mass time.

Los voluntarios del Ministerio Del Guardián hacen de

nuestra parroquia un lugar más seguro. (A lo largo de la

línea de un ángel "guardián")

Los miembros del Ministerio de Guardianes ayudan a

los feligreses a la seguridad, ven y reportan actividades y

comportamientos inusuales, desescalan o neutralizar la
