Dear Friends, Thanks for your good spirit in hearing the Financial Stewardship homily this past weekend. I appreciate being able to report to you our status. The substance of the homily will be on the parish website. I am grateful to those who are so faithful in their financial support to the parish and ministry. I invite all parishioners to make this effort so that our parish will remain a community that ministers in the Lord’s name. PLEASE return your completed 2013 financial stewardship commitment form during any mass this weekend. A number of our parish youth went to the annual March For Life in Washington, DC. Hope the trip was memorable. One of our young parishioners will be writing a short piece for our website about her experience. Watch for it. Thanks goes out to the Community Life Commission for sponsoring the recent Winter Wonderland Dads and Daughters Dance. Lots of folks of all ages and great fun all around. Pictures are on the website. This week, we highlight the gift of Catholic Schools. Our parish would certainly not be the parish it is without our fine school. The administration and faculty are dedicated men and women who fulfill the School’s Mission Statement, “Academic Excellence in a Community of Faith”. We pray for this ministry especially this weekend. OPEN HOUSE at SJV SCHOOL is this Thursday, 10:00am. Recently our Confirmation candidates went to Landmark Nursing Home to spend time with those who live there. This ministry effort was of benefit for those who visited and those who were visited. We remember the children who made their First Reconciliation this weekend. Thanks to the parents and catechists who have brought them thus far. Our Small Faith Communities will be offering their opportunity to grow in understanding of the Scriptures during the Lenten Season. Sign up is soon for new members. I hope you are having a good week.

Pray for one another and the parish. Love,

Youth Ministry Corner

Giving Is an Act of Prayer Thank you for your vital share in the life of this parish, and thank you for your participation in the

Stewardship of Finance phase of our Total Stewardship program. As we gather for Mass this Sunday, we return commitment cards, acknowledging God’s generous goodness to us—a substantive offering representing a vital spiritual commitment. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS

Just Faith Members Learn about Simple Living Finding happiness and contentment is as simple as opening ourselves fully to God's love and serving as an instrument to share that divine love with others. It's a simple formula, but we too often forget it. One key to obtaining this fulfillment is voluntary simplicity, where those of us who have been blessed with means make do with less and become more conscious of the needs of the less fortunate. Dianne Hanley, a Together Baton Rouge member and director of the St. Joseph Spirituality Center, recently spoke with our parish’s Just Faith group about voluntary simplicity. Dianne and her family have practiced voluntary simplicity for many years, and she shared their lessons learned and advice. Our Just Faith group has members with a range of ages, income levels and buying habits; but all agreed that Dianne's talk helped them identify areas in their own lives where they could cut back and still be happy, and even happier. We are reminded that happiness lies in communion with God, not in the buzz and pull of the busy world around us.

Elizabeth Ministry Rosebuds Return The Elizabeth Ministry Rosebud Program has returned to Mary’s Chapel on this month and remain until the beginning of Lent. We are bringing it back at the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision to confirm our commitment to honor and protect all life from conception to natural death. We will pray for and support those who are pregnant, celebrating birth and adoption, grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant/child death or those wanting to conceive or adopt. If you have one of these special needs, please select the appropriate color-coded silk roses and place in the vase provided. Each week, we will pray for one of the needs according to the color of a live rose, which will be in a separate vase near the display.
