After Jesus was baptized, he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I

am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also can hear the same words. Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that you can live your baptism more fully? We invite you to join us at our meetings held alternat-ing Sundays at 9:00 am in Piper II (off Piper Hall). Our upcoming meetings are January 26, February 9 & February 23.

If you or someone you know in our parish boundaries is experiencing a crisis and in need of help with food, cloth-ing, rent, utilities, or medical/dental attention, we have many resources available. Call SMG SVDP at 480-948-8380 ext. 50.

The Many Faces of Stewardship at SMG This well-known SMG couple are graced with the gifts of hospitality and service. They are fervent in faith and have a deep love for Jesus and His Church. If you don't yet know Bill & Kathleen Kelsey, look for them and introduce your-self! You are sure to receive a warm greeting.

Bill is a near native to Arizona, moving here in 1956 from his home state of Indiana where his father was a Doctor and mother was a nurse. He is the oldest of 5 children. He is a graduate of Brophy High School and Loyola Uni-versity in Los Angeles. You see Bill ushering and greet-ing people at the 8 AM Mass on Sundays. He is retired after 23 yrs as a Credit Union President and another 24 yrs as a business owner. Kathleen and Bill met as em-ployees of the Credit Union (he hired her). They were both single parents, Bill raising 4 children and Kathleen raising her two. They were married almost 40 years ago at the Newman Center in Tempe and all 6 children (ages 7-14) were in the wedding party. Combining families was a challenge and one of the first commitments they made to each other was to pray together every day in addition to their private prayer times, and that still continues. Their faith is what keeps them going.

Kathleen, the oldest of 5, was raised in a baseball family with her father being in baseball over 60 yrs and both brothers playing. When asked where she is from, her answer is what year? She has moved over 25 times, living in Arizona twice. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix. Kathleen has a banking back-ground, Interior decorating, was co-owner and manager of their business and worked for and retired from Cigna Medical Group. When they had 5 of their 6 children in college, Kathleen went back to ASU and got her BA in Sociology, graduating with honors the week after their oldest daughter graduated from NAU. Bill loves woodworking and has become quite good at wood turning. He reads several books a month and loves history. You see Kathleen serving as an EM, Usher and Greeter, but she also crochets baby blankets for the church and sends out all the greeting cards from the par-ish, is on the counting team and is one of the parish wed-ding coordinators. She loves antiquing and decorating. They live in Tempe, where they host a “block” rosary group once a week. They have chosen to be part of St. Maria Goretti Parish where they have developed many friendships over the years. They look forward to many more years of service and time with friends and family.

SMG is very blessed to count Bill & Kathleen among our flock.
