This will begin in most grades starting in February. The area with the most changes is the Human Development and Sexual Health strand. Below is an overview of what each grade will be covering with their Health and Physical Education teacher. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the topics that will be covered and to provide you with the opportunity to get in touch with us prior to commencing our studies. It is our belief at BSS that you as parents/guardians play the most significant role in the formation of your children’s values and behaviours related to Human Development and Sexual Health. This unit offers you the chance to discuss the classroom lessons and to consider them in relationship to your own family. Grade 1: Body parts, senses and functions and Hygienic procedures Grade 2: Stages of development and Oral health Grade 3: Healthy relationships, Physical and emotional development and Visible, invisible differences, respect Grade 4: Puberty changes emotional, social impact and Puberty Grade 5: Reproductive system, Menstruation, Spermatogenesis and Emotional, interpersonal stresses Grade 6: Development of Self Concept, Understanding of Puberty changes, Healthy relationships, Decision making in healthy relationships, Stereotypes and assumptions Please see attached for a list of resources by grade that are available in our JS Learning Commons. A brief text and simple drawings describe conception and birth. 612.63 SHO Boys, Girls & Body Science: A First Book About Facts of Life. By Meg Hickling.
