Quan - Cerritos, CA Kelley and Russell Stough - Alamo, CA Elizabeth and Adam Townsend - Santa Monica, CA Marcel Verdugo - Carlsbad, CA NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT The National Letter of Intent signing day for prospective student-athletes (“prospect” or “recruit”) in the sports of football, soccer and men’s water polo teams is Wednesday, February 1. The “NLI” is a major part of the recruiting process, so here’s a short Q & A to help explain the NLI program and to remind Bruin supporters that restrictions remain in place even after a prospect signs an NLI. What is the National Letter of Intent? The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospect and an NLI member institution. UCLA, all Pac-12 schools and almost all major conference schools participate in the NLI program. The Ivy League and military academy schools such as Navy, Army and Air Force do not offer NLIs. By signing an NLI, the prospect agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year and the institution agrees to provide an athletic scholar- ship for at least one academic year. Many major conference schools, including UCLA, offer multiyear scholarship agreements with the NLI. What is the NLI Recruiting Ban? Once an NLI is signed, all other schools must cease recruitment of and all communication with a prospect. This ban remains in effect until the prospect reports for regular squad practice or attends the first day of regular term classes. What is the penalty for not fulfilling the NLI agreement? A student-athlete has to serve one year in residence (two semesters or three quarters) at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports. This penalty can be waived through an appeals process and with the consent of the original signing school. Can a UCLA donor contact a prospect or his/her parents after the signing of an NLI? No. A booster may not call, text or email a prospect or his/her parents even if the purpose of the call is only to congratulate the prospect on signing. This restriction also applies to social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter. Boosters may not initiate or accept “friend” requests of prospects on Facebook and should never post to a recruit’s “wall,” reply to a “tweet,” send them any type of direct message, or take any other action that would constitute contacting that recruit. For questions on the National Letter of Intent program or any other compliance matter, please contact Dan Goldberg, Assistant Athletic Director Compliance at [email protected] or 310-794-8813. NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT

The National Letter of Intent signing day for prospective student-athletes (“prospect” or “recruit”) in the sports of football, soccer and men’s water polo teams is Wednesday, February 1. The “NLI” is a major part of the recruiting process, so here’s a short Q & A to help explain the NLI program and to remind Bruin supporters that restrictions remain in place even after a prospect signs an NLI.

What is the NLI Recruiting Ban? Once an NLI is signed, all other schools must cease recruitment of and all communication with a prospect. This ban remains in effect until the prospect reports for regular squad practice or attends the first day of regular term classes.
