Dear Fairview Families and Community Members,

Welcome back and Happy New Years! We hope that you had a wonderful holi-

day break with your families. We are very excited to have all of our students and

families back for the Spring 2017 term. Some things to keep in mind for this upcom-

ing month:

Cold weather is among us! However, it is very important to have students in

school every day to ensure they are receiving the learning tools to be successful

in their education. If you are in need of jackets/gloves/etc. please reach out to

Brittnee Merritt at 720-424-7563.

School Choice is among us! The deadline is on Tuesday, January 31st. Go to page 4

to learn more about the process to ensure you are choosing the best school for

your students.

Fairview is providing energy assistance for any family who has a student who at-

tends a DPS school. To learn more, reach out to Brittnee Merritt at 720-424-7563.

The school day starts at 8:15 a.m. and we are asking all of our parents to make sure

that their child does not show up until then. There is no one on duty until that time

and to ensure the safety of your son/daughter its important that they don’t arrive

any sooner than the designated time.

Sincerely,

Antoinette Hudson

SchoolChoice season is among us! For parents who do not know this process, SchoolChoice gives you

the option to choose your top five schools you would like your student to opt into that is not your

home school. See below to learn more about the SchoolChoice process.

DPS SchoolChoice

Overview

DPS believes all students should have the same access to quality schools, regardless of their back-ground or where they live in Denver. That’s what SchoolChoice is all about.

Any DPS student who wants to attend a school other than their automatically assigned neighbor-hood school can take part in SchoolChoice. To determine your neighborhood school, g0 to schoolfinder.dpsk12.org.

Families submit one SchoolChoice form per student, on which they rank their students’ top five school preferences. DPS then matches students to schools based on those preferences, as well as school

admission priorities and available space.

The next SchoolChoice season takes place Jan. 5 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2017 for the 2017-18 school year.

SchoolChoice: How It Works

Step 1: Research

Learn more about schools in which you might be interested. Use the Great Schools Enrollment Guides, SchoolMatch and tour individual schools.

Step 2: Prioritize

Be ready to fill out the SchoolChoice form by ranking your top five most-preferred schools in order.

Step 3: Complete

Fill out the entire SchoolChoice form, including ranking your top five schools, when it becomes availa-ble on Jan. 5, 2017. Online submission is recommended and is available through a DPS Parent Por-tal account. Paper forms will be available at all DPS schools and at Choice and Enrollment offices. Print-able forms will be available at schoolchoice.dpsk12.org.

Step 4: Submit

Turn in the signed and dated form by 4 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2017 online, at any school or the Choice offic-es. The DPS SchoolChoice system is designed to maximize the number of students who are placed in their most-preferred school. Letters and emails notifying families of their school placement will be sent in mid-March.

Choose Online!

When you fill out the SchoolChoice form online, good things happen! It’s quicker and easier – no paper shuffle, and no delivering the form to a school or drop-off center. Plus, you’ll receive your student’s school assignment sooner. Make sure you have a Parent Portal account at myportal.dpsk12.org, and fill out the SchoolChoice form online beginning Jan. 5, 2017. The deadline to submit is 4 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2017.
