Wyoming 4-H Scholarships
Application deadline: February 15 There are three (3) different places you can apply for college scholarships if you were actively involved in
4-H. Each has different applications and specific needs. Please read the eligibility criteria for each scholar-
ship carefully. You may apply for any or all scholarships listed below for which you qualify.
NILE SCHOLARSHIP The Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) Scholarship Program funded by the NILE Foundation, is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Since 1990, the NILE has awarded scholarships to deserving FFA and 4-H students that have been actively involved in their respective programs and communities, excelled in the classroom, and participated in NILE events. "Promoting the future of agriculture through the support of youth via scholarships is a long standing tradition of NILE." says Jennifer Boka, General Manager of the NILE. "Educating today's youth to be tomor-rows ag proponents is crucial to the entire world and we are NILE are proud to support and embrace the future of agriculture."
Similar to previous years, the NILE Scholarship Committee will be awarding three levels of scholarships. The first level will be the one-time scholarship awarded to high school seniors, similar to what the NILE has al-ways done. The second level of scholarships offered will also be a one-time grant, for students already en-rolled in College or a Vo-Tech school. Finally, the third level, which will offer the greatest scholarship amount, will be a rolling scholarship. The rolling scholarships will be offered to a select group of High School Seniors who will have the opportunity to renew the scholarship yearly, up to four years of their secondary education. Recipients of rolling scholarships will be chosen from the pool of applicants that are current sen-iors in High School.
Each year the NILE touches the lives of nearly 10,000 youth through its many programs, events, "live" animal scholarships, and college scholarships. Every year the NILE provides over $55,000 in cash and live animal scholarships.
The NILE Foundation was established in 2009 as a supporting arm of the NILE organization, which is dedicat-ed to the promotion of livestock, agriculture education, and respect for the western culture.
Scholarship applications and guidelines can be found on the NILE's website, or by contacting the NILE Office at 406-256-2495. Applications must be in the NILE Office by Friday - March 11, 2016. Applications incom-plete or late will not be considered. Scholarships will be awarded and announced in mid-April.

Everyday people have an opportuni-
ty to cheat. Sometimes people cheat to get
ahead and make themselves look good to
others. Sometimes they cheat because it is
easier than working hard to accomplish a goal
and they don’t think they will get caught.
There are many reasons cheating is
wrong and many of them involve breaking
trust. Following are several examples of how
cheating breaks trust:
You’ll lose the teacher’s/4-H leader’s/4-H
member’s trust that you will do your own
work.
You’ll lose your self-respect and pride.
Do you really want to think of yourself as
a cheater?
Once you tell one lie, you have to create
a whole lot more lies to keep the first lie
covered up.
Cheating is like robbing others who are
honest. It is taking something you have-
n’t earned. Is this any different than
stealing?
Cheating hurts everyone, the cheater as
well as those around them. People who are
trustworthy will always have more respect
and stronger relationships than cheaters.
They will also have confidence in their abili-
ties because they have done their own
There are many ways to demonstrate trustworthiness. Taking
time at a club meeting to make a top
10 list of these ways can be fun and
useful. How? Follow these steps: At a
club meeting, divide the members up
into groups of 5-6. Each group will
need a note taker and a reporter. Ask
each group to brainstorm ways they
can become more trustworthy, such as
keep promises, tell the truth, do what
you’re told, be loyal, admit when
you’re wrong, never cheat, etc. Have
each group record their ideas and
when every group is finished have
them report back to the whole group.
Once each group has reported their
ideas, have the entire club work together to come
to a consensus on the 10 best ways to build trust-
worthiness.
Ask the members if they can live by these
actions to build trust and then recognize members
efforts by awarding them trustworthiness certifi-
cates or small prizes throughout the year. The public
recognition will be a great reminder to continue the
journey toward trustworthiness.

It is exciting that our Cloverbud participation is growing in Crook County.
Please look at the following guidelines for these participants.
What Is Cloverbuds?
The 4-H Cloverbud is a FUN youth program specially designed for children in K—2nd grade (ages 5-7 as of Jan-uary 1 of 4-H year). The focus is hands-on cooperative learning in small groups with adult supervision. Clover-buds participate in activities, games, and other positive experiences in a supportive, creative, challenging and fun environment that introduce them to the wide variety of 4-H project experiences which are available to them when they turn 8 years old.
Key differences between Cloverbuds and Older 4-H Members
Cloverbuds
-Learning is activity centered
-Instruction is leader directed
-Recognized for participation only
-Activities come from approved curriculum or through materials approved by the county educator
-DO NOT work with animals, participate in shooting sports, or compete in events.
-Cloverbud clubs do not elect officers or have fundraising events.
Frequently Asked Questions
1.Can my Cloverbud participate in the Crook County fair? A Cloverbud cannot show in a Youth or 4-H class at the county fair because these are competitive events. Crook County Fair does have Pee-Wee classes which are open to the public. As these are not 4-H sponsored events, a youth could participate in these events but not as representing 4-H.
2.Can my Cloverbud work with animals? No.
3.Do Cloverbuds complete record books? No.
4.Can my Cloverbud participate in shooting sports? No.
5.How much does it cost? Cloverbuds cost $1.35 and have to complete the same enrollment process each 4-H year (October 1-September 30) as the traditional members.
If you have programming ideas or
know of someone that might be
willing to host a workshop,
please contact the
Extension Office.
