The #1 Key to Choosing the Right Probate Lawyer

If you find yourself as the executor of a probate estate, you’re going to want to align yourself with a qualified probate lawyer. But choosing the right lawyer can be a tricky process. Here’s why:

Many lawyers who advertise that they practice probate law also handle two, three or four other practice areas. What we find is that these practice areas usually have nothing at all to do with pro-bate. Which leads us to the #1 key to choosing a probate lawyer: Don’t choose a lawyer who does probate as a sideline.

This is especially important because if a problem comes up during your case (which one almost always will) these lawyers often make critical mistakes causing real problems for their clients. Plus, their cases often take longer than those handled by experienced California probate lawyers. Knowing how to address difficult situations only comes from the experience gained by having dealt with them before and the willingness to go to court when necessary.

The bottom line is that too many lawyers only dabble in probate and probate litigation. Having a lawyer who is not afraid to litigate will help protect you from the beginning of your case. That’s because any probate can unexpectedly turn nasty and devolve into litigation. If your lawyer doesn’t do litigation then you’re going to have to change your lawyer midway through your probate.

The Grossman Law Firm is happy to share that in October we gave away a few tickets to a won-derful Charity Fashion Show that benefitted The London Sky Organization. This group’s purpose is to help those that are in need in an extremely

difficult moment in their lives. The organization helps with burial expenses for miscarriages and loss of life for infants and children up to 5 years of age. They also offer counseling for the bereaved.

We were so touched at the purpose and desire to help those going through such a devastating hurt that we have decided to help them raise funds to reach more people in need. So we are pleased to announce that in April of 2016, we will be helping to put on a Charity Gala and Silent Auction at the Riverside Art Museum. ResolutionJanuary: The beginning of the year and a time for fresh starts. People often consider January the time for resolutions and the time to decide to make changes. Here at The Grossman Law Firm, this year will be different than others. Our staff has grown and our ideals are coming more to the forefront.

This year will involve us giving back to our community throughout the year. This is not a new year’s resolution for us as we have spent the final quarter of last year deciding how and in what ways we can give back.

So, be on the lookout for updates on things we feel passionately about; we will share them as the events and activities we have planned approach! We hope that one of your new year’s resolutions is to become more involved in your community, too!

Cheers to 2016. Let’s Make It a Year to Remember!

rThe last day before heading back to school after winter break, Eva donated her hair to Locks of Love.

She donated her hair once before, when she was in third

grade, and we all remembered how short her hair was after the big chop. This time, her hair had grown so long that it was still past her shoulders even after cutting off a ten-inch ponytail.

Our amazing stylist, Kris Sutton of Studio K in Temecula did a fabulous job. (The girls of the family all go to Kris; Scott is a loyal longtime Great Clips customer where he describes his haircut by clipper size number.)

There are several hair donation chari-ties and we are happy to support Locks of Love, a nonprofit that provides hairpieces to needy children suffering from medical conditions causing them to lose their hair.

Valentine’s Day: Time to Think About Color

Valentine’s Day is another holiday that has its own color – red, of course. While you are putting out those red hearts, burgundy candles, and other Valentine’s decorations, it’s a good time to ask if some new color will make your home or that special room more heart-warming.

After all, when it comes to color, I advise my clients to follow their heart. As an interior decorator, my color philosophy revolves around the fact that sometimes color preferences are not always the same as your favorite colors.

Country Style Steak and GravySo this month, warm comfort food easily made in a crockpot is on the menu at our house! So here is one of my family’s favorites.

You can serve this with rice, mashed potatoes, or if you want a really filling breakfast over grits.

This is a cook all night meal, and the longer you cook it, the better and more tender it is.

Ingredients• 3 to 5 lbs. of cube steak• 1 cup flour• Salt and pepper (1 tsp each)• 1 large onion

• ¼ stick butter• 1 to 1 ½ cups milk• 1 can cream of mushroom soup• 1 cup coconut oil

• Crockpot• Frying pan

In the frying pan, heat the oil to medium high heat. In a flat pie pan mix flour and salt and pepper (I add a little cayenne to mine maybe ¼ teaspoon sometimes), then coat the cube steak in the flour and fry it, only until it is about half cook, make sure you turn it over (about 3 minutes on each side). Meanwhile in the crockpot, turned on medium heat, add the onion (diced) and the butter.

Once you cook all the meat, skim any breading or bits of meat left in the pan out, but leave about 4 tablespoons of oil, add enough flour to coat the bottom and extra salt and pepper, as soon as it starts to brown (this is almost instantly, so be ready) add the milk slowly, stirring constantly.

Turn off the heat, that will make the gravy too thick. Then mix in the cream of mushroom soup and add the gravy to the crockpot and the meat alternating to make sure all the meat is coated and let cook on low overnight and until you’re ready to eat. Also goes well with biscuits and veggies.

peI suggest that my clients follow 5 easy steps in assessing their space for a new color scheme:

1. Decide where your best opportunities are for using color. Will painting one wall in an accent color give your room the spark you desire? Or, perhaps, a soft blending of similar color hues will give your new room it’s desired “feeling or mood.”

2. Take a critical look at your room’s architectural features. Do you want them to stand out or be minimized? For instance, perhaps you have painted bookshelves flanking a room’s fireplace. Adding an accent color to the back walls of your bookshelves might add just a bit of much needed color flair to the entire wall scheme.

3. Try to define how your space is being used. Reading, relaxing, game playing, watching TV? An important consideration in selecting your new color scheme is how you actually use and enjoy the space.

4. Analyze your room’s lighting. How much natural light does your room have? A room with a lot of artificial light will definitely call for a different color plan than one with a lot of natural light.

5. Take into account your “new” room’s relationship to the other rooms in your home. Color continuity is key to creating the overall look most people desire for their homes.
