PRESIDENT’S NOTES A message from Daniel King January 2015 Number 1 Runningboard Ramblings Antique Auto Club of America Tulsa Region Joe Smith, Treasurer Teresa Wilkinson, Secretary Jim Jones, and the at-large board members David Turner, Richard Holmes, and Phil Judkins. In 2015 there are some question marks regarding our participation in traditional club events such as the Tulsa new car show and the Krispy Kreme fund raiser and consequently we will need help in identifying new events for our calendar. We also have a tremendous challenge in recruiting new members and increasing interest in the old car hobby. As mentioned over the last few months, one of our very important events coming in 2015 is the Glidden Tour taking place in Oklahoma City August 30th through September 4th as our club has been asked to run the hospitality room. We certainly want to have maximum participation and leave the Glidden Tour participants with the most favorable impression of Oklahoma as possible. And so to end the old year and greet the new one, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year. Sincerely, Daniel King AACA Tulsa Region, 2015 President Dear Fellow Club Members, As we reach the end of 2014 and look forward to the new year ahead of us, I would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who contributed to the variety of club activities we undertook: Our March garage tour to the AUBURN, CORD, DUESENBERG FACTORY & MUSEUM in Broken Arrow; our April tour to the Groendyck private collection; in June we had the Haikey Creek car show, the Krispy Kreme car show, and the Claremore/Afton trip to the Davis Gun Museum and Starbird Museum; the ice cream social in August; September’s Labor Day cookout and our visit to the Ted Davis private collection; November’s participation in the Tulsa Veteran’s Day Parade; and December’s Christmas Party. Thanks to everyone who made a presentation at our monthly general club meetings; a special mention goes to Randy Beeson for his “100 Years Ago Today” feature in the club newsletters; and a special thanks to Joanne Cooper for letting us meet in her fabulous garage. As most of you know 2013 was my first year as a member of the Tulsa Chapter and 2014 was my first year as a board member and officer. I am honored to have been chosen President for 2015, but with my obvious inexperience I will need the help of all of you, and especially Vice President

AACA General Meeting MinutesSunday, December 7, 20144

The December 7, 2014 Tulsa Region AACA general meeting was convened at 2:05 pm by President Richard Holmes. There were 33 members and 1 guest, Roger Baggett, present. The minutes of the November 2, 2014 meeting were read by Secretary Ron Hardage and approved as read. No treasury report was given due to the absence of Treasurer Teresa Wilkinson.

Fred Narrin reviewed the previous night’s Christmas party, deeming it to be a success.

Richard noted that Carolanne Mahan had volunteered to arrange for and coordinate the installation banquet. Carolanne then provided the location, date, time, menu, and cost for the banquet. Afterward Chuck Mahan gave an interesting presentation promoting the banquet and especially the area of “awards of merit and distinction.“

Richard reported that there was a good turnout for the Veterans Day Parade.

Ron Hardage announced that Charles Schaffer is in St Francis Hospital.

It was noted that the LOWL will not be meeting in December.

Walt Knickerbocker noted that Alex Wilson will be 95 years old on December 15th. He and Marjorie brought a cake to celebrate Alex’s birthday. It was questioned, who has been paying for cakes for members reaching 90 years and above? Walt

noted that he had. A motion was made, second, and passed, that the club pay for cakes for those members reaching 90 years and above. Editorial note: The club policies state “ Upon a member’s 90th birthday, the Region will furnish a birthday cake at the next general meeting .“

Jim Jones pointed out the shirt he was wearing, on which he had the new Tulsa Region AACA logo embroidered. Any member wishing to have a shirt with the logo needs to contact Jim. He will have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting. It was questioned, what was the cost of having the logo pattern made, Jim noting it was $50 . It was moved, second and passed that Jim be reimbursed the $50.

Daniel King passed around a sign-up sheet for cookies for the 2015 general meetings. He also noted that anyone wishing to participate in the Glidden Tour hospitality room or other function, let he or another board member know.

Richard thanked everyone for supporting him as the 2014 president.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:35 pm.After adjournment, David Turner gave a very interesting slide presentation on his favorite pictures of cars he has taken over the past 20 or so years.

Respectfully submitted,Ron Hardage, 2014 Secretary

There was little good news to report this month. On

January 12th, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a women’s suffrage proposal. The following day, British First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill presented his plan for a campaign in the Dardanelles. The slaughter of Australian troops by Turkish forces at Gallipoli would result in Churchill’s eventual resignation. Casualties in the 1915-16 Dardanelles Campaign totaled 500,000 with 111,000 dead on both sides. Also on the 13th, an earthquake in Avezzano, Italy killed 29,800 people.

On January 15th, Japan claimed economic control of China. She followed this action by presenting her “Twenty-One Demands” to the Republic of China on the 18th. This action would only deepen the rift between Japan and the U.S., whose citizens generally believed that Japan had gone too far against a largely defenseless neighbor.
