Attendance

The whole school attendance for WE 15/01/16 was

96.12% This means that this week’s attendance was below

our target of 96.5%. Keep aiming high. Every minute of

every day counts.

This week the attendance league table goes as follows: Mrs Garforth‘s class (Turquoise) with 99.35% Mrs Evans’ class (Yellow) with 98.62% Mrs Martin ‘s class (Purple) with 96.47% This week 13.58 hours of education were lost due to appointments and 7.75 hours of education were lost due to lateness –we need your help in reducing these figures. Please ensure all routine opticians and dental appointments are made outside of school hours or in the school holidays and that your child attends school on time every day. Thank you.

Medication– With your authorisation we

can administer medication to help your child complete their medication course or if they have minor aliments such as coughs / colds / headache to help them through a school day . Please see the office if you would like to discuss administering medication on your behalf. Please ensure ALL medication is brought to the office. Thank you.

To help us keep our school head lice free please ensure that you check your child’s hair each week. Thank you.

Have you recently changes your mobile contract? Changed jobs? Changes home telephone provider? Moved? Please ensure you have updated the school with any changes to your contact details. Thank you.

Please remember that non emergency dentist appointments, opticians appointments, doctor appointments etc. should be made out of school time. Every minute of every day counts

Please remember to ring school (0161 624 9885) each day before 9:30am with details of why your child is absent from school. If we do not hear from you the absence will be recorded as an unauthorised absence which could lead to a fixed penalty notice fine.

Term time absences A pupil’s absence during term time can seriously disrupt their continuity of learning. Not only do they miss the teaching provided on the days they are away, they are also less prepared for subsequent lessons on their return. There is a consequent risk of underachievement.

We ask that all Parents/Carers make all routine appointments (dentist, opticians etc.) outside of school time or in school holidays – non emergency appointments will be recorded as unauthorised absence. Any other medical appointments (specialist appointments, hospital appointments, emergency GP appointments etc.) if medical evidence (appointment letter) is submitted will be recorded as an M – Medical appointment on your child’s attendance record and does unfortunately adversely affect your child’s attendance figure .

Parents / carers do not have a right to take their child out of school during term time. As a result family holidays should be planned during the school holidays. As of September 2013 the School Governors agreed that, in line with new law, no leave taken in term time would be authorised unless for a medical reason for the individual child (i.e. an operation) where medical evidence must be provided. In accordance with the Local Authority Attendance Policy, school will class any absences that meet the criteria as unauthorised absences and will refer for a Fixed Penalty Notice fine. If your child will be absent for any reason that you know of in advance please put it in writing to the Governors - you will then be contacted with the decision as to whether the absence will be recorded as authorised or unauthorised.

Time to Talk In our assemblies each week we discuss and take time to think about different topics. These link with our

Christian values. This week we talked about : Sleeping lions - To understand that when we make choices to set a personal goal, we need to plan through the consequences. Talk: Do our choices have consequences? What do you need to do to achieve your goals?

You will receive an email before 12 noon on 1 March 2016 to advise you of the school that your child has been allocated a place at.

Please take a look at our website http://www.stannesroyton.oldham.sch.uk/ . It includes all our statutory information; including curriculum info and topics. You can also find newsletters, useful forms, information

about St Anne’s Care club, our church and we even have a Twitter feed.

If your child is late into school please ensure that you enter school through the main reception door of the Junior building. This is to ensure your child has been put on the fire register and all children are accounted for in the event of an evacuation. Thank you.

Please ensure that all children are waiting ready to enter school on time each morning. Late attendance not only disrupts the start of the morning session but also causes unnecessary upset

to children that have to enter class late. Many thanks.

With regard to punctuality, when children are persistently late, this can create gaps in their education and prevent them from reaching their full learning potential. It can also disrupt the classroom when lessons have already begun and cause unnecessary distress to the child that is late. Therefore, not only must a child attend school regularly, but they must not be late. If your child arrives at school on at least 10 occasions after the registration period and is recorded as late after registration, you may incur a Fixed Penalty Notice (fine). With regard to absence, 96.5% is the expected level of attendance that St Anne’s pupils should aim for. Persistent gaps in your child’s education can have a serious impact on their educational attainment. It is a parent’s legal responsibility to ensure the regular, full-time attendance of their children. Failing to do this could lead to legal proceedings from the LA and a Penalty Notice (fine) being issued. Parents do not have the legal right to take their child out of school on holiday during term time. Term-time holidays are no longer authorised and you will be issued a Penalty Notice by the Education Attendance Service and your child could lose their school place. Routine medical appointments such as routine opticians check up, dentist check ups etc. should not be taken during school time. Try to arrange such appointments in school holidays, or after school. Attendance recorded at 96.5% - Excellent. Attendance recorded at 95.1%-96.49% - Good Attendance recorded at 94.24-95.09% - Average Attendance recorded at 94.23% and below – Poor Attendance recorded at 90% or below is classes as persistent absence

96.49% attendance means that your child will have missed 1.33 weeks education a year!!!

AVIKO visit On Tuesday 2nd February Aviko (the company that supplies our kitchen with potatoes) are visiting the school to deliver a workshop all about potatoes. In doing so they will be raising awareness about the versatility of a potato and the nutritional value in our diet. School Meals All children from Reception to Year 2 under the Government scheme are entitled to a free school meal. All Children from Year 3 to Year 6 can purchase a school meal for just £2 a day. Are you entitled to free school meals? You can get free school meals if your child attends a local authority maintained school (not private) and you receive one of the following: - Income Support (IS) - Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA) - An income-related employment - Support under part VI of the Immigration and

Asylum Act 1999 and support allowance - Universal Credit - Child Tax Credit (provided you are not entitled to

Additionally: - You, as the parent or guardian, must Receive Child Benefit for the child you are responsible for. - Children who receive IS or IBJSA in their own right are also entitled to receive free school meals. - Children who receive “education suitable for children who have not attained compulsory school age” will still need to satisfy the additional requirement of “receiving education both before and after the lunch period”, before being eligible to receive free school meals. There are also cases where the parent/guardian whose children may be eligible for free school meals is not on Housing Benefit/Council Tax Reduction, i.e. where they are not the householder. This is generally the case where the pupils’ parent/guardian lives in another household. Did you know … just registering your child

for Free School Meals (even if they are

Reception-Yr2) means that the school gets

extra money?

Register now to make sure we don’t miss out

The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called a ‘Pupil Premium’. For every child registered St Anne’s, Royton gets £1320 this year.

With this money we could increase staffing and buy more educational resources. If you are registered for Free School Meals you could also get help with the cost of school trips.
