Dear Members, As I reflect on my first quarter as President of the Aspen Board of REALTORS® (Soon to be called Chair), I am grateful to our dynamic Board of Directors for their leadership, and our experienced and competent staff of Lindsey and Michele, with Maria Cook now at the helm for carrying through the directives required to make our association run smoothly and successfully for our membership. And what a membership! I am so proud to associate myself with such an outstanding group of real estate professionals. The 2015 goals of ABOR include being more involved with State (Wildfire Urban Interface), National (Water rights) and Local (Increasing mitigation fees) issues that will affect private property rights and how we do business. We will continue to increase our community involvement by supporting non-profit organizations and place them in the spotlight to help them grow and thrive. We support the efforts of our AGSMLS in no longer “giving away” our information. If the Big Boys (Trulia/Zillow) want the information, they'll have to pay for it. Our primary goal is to support you in your business success by communicating with the managing brokers on upcoming issues, bringing you the best educators in the State, offering events to further your knowledge on what's new in our industry as well as our community, and making the Rental Brokers more efficient. Lastly, one of our most important objectives is to get YOU involved! We have some great committees in which to serve including Philanthropy, Governmental Affairs, as well as the Stark Heldman King Golf Scholarship committees. I encourage you to get involved in your industry as many important issues are looming on the horizon and we would love your input!! I promise that you will get back more than you give by being involved. May 2015 bring you peace, love and prosperity! P.S. Thank you for your donations to Christmas Wish Foundation, your coats that went to Salvation Army and for making the Christmas Party one of the BEST ever! Kudos to you! 3 New Year’s Resolutions to Grow Your Business

Associated Press

As every year wraps up, we look to our past to propel our futures, and we evaluate how our current year went so we can improve on the next. Some will focus on a culture change, others on a marketing shift, and others on new products. But what all have in common is a desire to improve revenues. More money doesn’t mean more problems, it means more job creation and more innovation. So what are some simple ways to make more money in 2015? No matter your business size, be it a solopreneur or a growing brand of over 400, Evan Singer of SmartBiz offers three simple, but easy to overlook ways to do just that.

First, Singer tells us to do something that many of us will cringe at, but he’s right. “If you want to borrow capital for your business and had a good 2014, file your taxes early.” But why, Evan, why? Taxes are a thorn in our sides, so why? “Most banks will look at your tax returns to determine if your business has adequate cash flow for your loan,” Singer notes. “If you can use 2014 tax returns – that can help you get approved.” Well that makes sense, despite the high pain level associated with not procrastinating. Secondly, Singer asserts that “You can refinance your higher interest business loans just like you can refinance your higher interest consumer loans.” He suggests finding an SBA lender that allows you to refinance your higher interest debt. Professionals often make the mistake of not taking a second look at this type of option, but it can be a huge money saver for any brand. Lastly, Singer suggests laser-like focus. “Don’t let the negative articles scare you from investing to grow your business. The economy is picking up. Unemployment is going down,” Singer said. “Now is the time to build your business!”
