www.valerie-payne.com 321.544.0360(c) [email protected] Because the General Counsel’s Office is rather new to you – and to me! – I will focus a few prayer letters this year highlighting various initiatives our in‐house counsel team has created that are making a difference for eternity. Besides serving the day‐to‐day needs of the 30+ unique ministries that comprise the world’s largest missions organization, Cru’s General Counsel’s Office is on a mission of its own: to train and influence the broader legal community. Next month, I’ll highlight our legal intern program, which targets the rising generation of lawyers. This month I want to feature Faith and Law Around the Globe (FLAG), which is a flagship (yes, pun intended) discipleship program birthed by the dream of one of our in‐house counsel, Bob Trierweiler. Bob’s dream for FLAG is the spiritual refreshment and growth of the current generation of attorneys, judges, and other legal professionals – from all nations. To that end, FLAG hosted its first international conference in 2008 in Berlin, Germany. Through engaging speakers, breakout sessions, and deep fellowship, the conference taught its diverse attendees how to live a more productive and balanced life empowered by the Holy Spirit. Building off the success of the Berlin conference, plans are brewing for the 2013 conference to take place in Hong Kong on April 4‐8. Because most of you know my background of extensive research and advocacy on anti‐human trafficking issues, I’d like to share an exciting prayer request about the upcoming FLAG conference in Hong Kong. Nefarious, Merchant of Souls, is a hard‐hitting documentary that exposes disturbing trends in modern sex slavery. I saw the film last year at its debut. From the very first scene, Nefarious illustrates the nightmare of sex slavery that thousands of women and children experience daily. It features unforgettable interviews with actual victims and traffickers, alongside expert analysis. The FLAG team previewed Nefarious for the 2013 conference in Hong Kong. Currently, there are legal representatives from 14 nations – and counting – who will attend. Will you pray for wisdom in presenting the film in Hong Kong, and a significant response from the audience? As leaders in the community, the lawyers and judges attending the conference are uniquely positioned to do something about the atrocity of human trafficking. Imagine the impact!
