There was a recap of Zone 9 / Downtown Club Christmas Dinner. We received a letter from Brookwood thanking us for gifts of $180 in gift cards, and the $55 donation from 50/50. See some photos on page 5.

There was a reminder for the upcoming Bunco Party on 1/21/2012 at Judy & Lee's Clubhouse near Gandy Derby Downs. You can arrive as early as 6:00pm, dinner starts at 6:30pm, and all the fun begins at 7:00pm. The plan is to play longer this time. Bring whatever food you like and BYOB.

Zone 9 Optimist Clubs/JOOI Clubs

meeting was at The Acropolis. LG Ric

Carvalis gave a recap of the events for the upcoming year. Ric plans to have a cookout event for the rest of the quarters. Membership as always, is a primary goal.

Also discussed was the upcoming yard sale/flea market. We set a date of February 18, 2012. Since then, it has discovered that is the date of the Breakfast Club’s Fish Fry. The NEW DATE for the annual yard sale is now February 25, 2012. The location is the same as in past years, Ric & Betty Jo’s Club 28 parking lot, located at 28th Street & 17th Avenue North, St. Petersburg. As always, the first ones there get to pick their spots. Each club will set up and manage its own section. Each club will collect for their own merchandise. I will run an ad and ask each participating club to share the cost of the ad, which won’t be much. The advertised time will be 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. As we all know, you need to be there early to get your merchandise out and your section set up. If your club is interested in getting involved, please let me know. Actually, this is also a good zone social time, of sorts. We always have fun, and the clubs make a few bucks. Ric & Betty Jo will allow us to use their clean restrooms, and they sell cold drinks for those who may be interested. Bring your own tables and chairs for seating, please. Any questions, please contact me.

The DTOC has decided not to participate this year.

Thanks, Vi

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself -To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
