STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. January 2012

Chapter Meeting December 14

Happy New Year! Are all you lucky Storm Riders as stoked about 2012 as I am? That is, if you don’t believe the

world is ending in December like The Mayan calendar is predicting. But you never know, they might be right, so get out and ride with us before the end is here. Last year was a great year, with all the activi-ties Brenda had for us to do, and I know for a fact that she is working even harder to get more fun stuff for us to do in 2012. Hopefully you got this before January 1st and are planning to go on our annual New Year’s Day ride with us. It’s always weather dependent. That means if it’s nice we take a long ride, but if it’s cold, it will be a shorter ride. Remember our motto

“Rain or shine we ride and dine. Ice or snow we don’t go” The Rooster ride will happen again this year. Eureka Springs is on tap for another visit along with another river float trip. We have dinner rides all year long, at least two every month, and during nicer weather three or more each month. If you have somewhere you would like to go with the chapter, let us know. We will get it in the mix. Congratulations to John Sebrant and Angela Marinelli. They are the male and female riders of the year for 2011. Don (the Godfa-ther) Antinoro won the mileage contest with 20,467 miles last year. Can you do better? The mileage contest starts on January 1st this year. Or do you think you can ride more than Matt Baker the service

manager at Fort Thunder H-D? If you can get in more miles that Matt, between January 1st and March 1st, you can get rewarded for do-ing it. The official rules are at Fort Thunder. While you are there getting your odometer checked, have them service your bike and make sure it’s ready for all those miles you’re going to put on it while trying to win. If you see Robert Dodson, the owner of our favorite dealership, stop and thank him for all the support he provides our chapter. Without Robert’s sponsorship we would not have a chapter. That’s all I have for now. See you all on the next ride! Ira Frame [email protected]

STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. January 2012

Happy New Year, Storm Riders! I hope that each of you had a wonderful Christ-

mas holiday and have made your New Year’s resolutions. Mine is to put more miles on those two wheels in 2012! I hope that is also one of yours as well. I will begin by saying thank you for allowing me to represent this chapter as the Ladies of Harley officer for 2012. I am excited to be a part of such a great group of people! I must thank Becky Hammer for her dedication to this chapter for the past several years in her various officer positions. As the LOH Officer the past two years she has been a true leader for our group. THANK YOU BECKY!

To everyone who helped with the Christ-mas party table decorations, I thank each of you! We all had a fun time working to-gether to craft our masterpieces!

The centerpieces were enjoyed by all at the Christmas party. The little pigs made for some great conversations as well! So you see, there is a crafty side to all of us!

And the gift wrapping, well what can I say? Chapter members, guys and gals, you are the best wrappers ever! Thank you so very much for your time!

And a special thank you to Jenifer Bartling at Fort Thunder for supplying us with the wrapping paper, gift boxes and other wrap-ping items! The next time you see Jennifer, please thank her. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without her!

I am working on a location to have our first LOH meeting toward the end of January. Do you have a suggestion or idea for LOH or wanting to become more involved? Then please make plans to attend our first meeting. I will send out an email with more information on the place and time in the next couple of weeks. Please be sure I have your correct email address. The chapter is looking for someone to take over the patch sewing. It does not involve a lot of time and from my own personal experience it has been a great way to get to know more chap-ter members. If you are interested, please con-tact me by phone at 650-1441 or email me at [email protected]. I look forward to seeing you at the first LOH meeting for 2012 – watch your email for more information! I promise that you will be glad you came! It was a very cold day, in the low 30's, but we still had a small turn out of dedi-cated Storm Riders: 8 bikes, and 9 riders. Brad Nelson and Jonathan Leavey helped out with road captain duties on our 78 mile ride to LaDonna's Grill in Meeker. The route was east to Sooner Road, south to Norman, east to Shawnee on hwy 9, then north to hwy 62, and east into Meeker.

They were ready and waiting for us. The food was great, and by the time we finished eating we had warmed up and were ready for the ride home.

Welcome to 2012, Storm Riders! Oh what we have planned for this year

for you to look forward to! Rooster Ride, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, lots of dinner rides, and any other ideas that might come around. The officers will have their planning meeting on January 8. You never know what kind of fun things will be on our calendar coming out of that meeting. If you ever have an idea for an overnighter, day trip or someplace you have ate and think the chapter members might enjoy, please write it down and get it to one of the officers. We are always looking for new places to try out. We are planning Game Night #3 later this month. Stay tuned for details. Let’s get this year started! Ride safe. Brenda Stutterheim Activities Officer

Saddle Up and Let’s Ride! by Brenda Stutterheim , Activities Officer

Be visible: Remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting in time. Make sure your headlights work and they are on, day and night. Reflec-tive strips or decals on your clothing and on your motorcycle will make you more visible. Flash your brake lights when you are slowing down and before stopping. If a motorist doesn't see you, don't be afraid to use your horn. Be aware of blind spots on cars and trucks, and stay out of them as much as possible. Dress for safety: Wear a quality helmet and eye protection. Wear bright clothing and a light colored helmet. Wear leather or other thick protective clothing. Choose long sleeves and pants, with boots and gloves. Remember the only thing between you and the road is your protective gear. Apply effective mental strategies: Constantly search the road for changing conditions. Search, Evaluate and Execute your strategy. Give yourself space and time to respond to other motorists’ actions. Give other motorists time and space to respond to you. Use lane positioning to be seen. Ride in the part of a lane where you are most visible. Watch for turning vehicles. Signal your next move in advance. Avoid weaving between lanes. Don't ride when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Know and follow the rules of the road, and stick to the speed limit.

Remember, always think safety, Remember, always think safety, to get home safely.to get home safely.
