    The Insider

As our 15thAnniversary year comes to a close, we want totake this opportunity to thank supporters like you who have madeour existence possible. With your help, we have successfully com-pleted a variety of projects and programs to help the community.

Since its inception, Greenspace has set aside nearly $2million of formerly developable property for conservation, his-toric, and scenic purposes for the enjoyment of the community. We have promoted the preservation of Cambrias history withthe protection of the Chinese Association Hallon Center Street, which includes nearly 2 acres

of open space, and the continuing acquisitionof the Chumash Village site on Wales Triangle.

Your financial contributions, alongwith grants and partnerships from variousagencies, have allowed us to collect nearly100,000 pine seed, grow nearly 3,000 seed-lings, construct a greenhouse and develop ourReforestation and Inoculation Program, whichis producing seedlings that are potentially re-sistant to pitch canker.

Santa Rosa Creek and the endan-gered species that inhabit it have been on thetop of our priority list since our inception. Withyour support we have attempted to protectour creek through land acquisition, education and advocacy. We have conducted workshops on CEQA, the Santa Rosa Creekwatershed, red-legged frogs and other creek related topics.

Many of the above-mentioned programs are on-go-ing, and we are continually beginning new projects and pro-grams. Because of this, we are always looking for new andinnovative ways that our members can support the work wedo. Additionally, many of our members have inquired aboutdifferent ways to contribute to Greenspace in addition to theirmembership dues.

We have put together a sample of options that con-

gress has passed into law that helps individuals and compa-nies assist in supporting the nonprofit sector of our economy. Here are a few ideas for methods of supporting Greenspace, your community land trust.Stocks and Bonds

Greenspace has been fortunate to receive stocks asgifts from various members. This is an easy way to donate tothe organization and will provide you with tax benefits withoutany capital gains tax. Greenspace has set up a Brokerage Ac-count that enables an easy transfer of these assets. Please callthe office for details.

Personal PropertyMany people have donated a variety of personal pro

erty to Greenspace over the years including works of art, jewelry, books, furniture, automobiles, and time-shares. Selling used vehicle is nearly always an aggravation. By donating it us you get a nice tax benefit and we take care of the fuss odealing with the sale.Bequests

Greenspace can be remembered in wills and trusts wigifts of cash or property. This will allow us expand our programs into new and exciting aeas. You may leave an unrestricted bequest you may specify which Greenspace project yowant to support. We are always available talk confidentially to you about your wishes.Charitable Remainder Trusts and Undivide

Partial InterestHighly appreciated assets, including pro

erty, stocks or even art and antiques, can bplaced in an irrevocable trust. The asset cotinues to provide income for life or, in the casof a house, a place to reside for you and/or yobeneficiaries for life. Ultimately the assets bcome property of Greenspace. The tax adva

tages are numerous but the more beneficiarienamed the lower the tax savings.Undivided partial interest is when you donate portions of a pro

erty over time until the entire property is owned by GreenspacThe benefit is that you get the tax deduction spread over numerouyears and Greenspace protects the land. We have legal experthat will gladly answer questions on how this works.Pocket Parks and Forest Preserves

Supporters continue to donate parcels of property Greenspace that are set aside as open space for the community. this way, not only does the community get to enjoy more opespace but also the owners are relieved of their tax burden and alsknow that the property will be there for the community to enjoy.

Name A Park and Commemorative BenchesA wonderful way to honor a special person is purchasin

a commemorative bench on one of Greenspaces open spaceAlternatively, there are pocket parks and forest preserves that cabe named for a loved one. Either of these options would be a gthat will continue to give for generations to come.

We hope that you will consider one of these donation op

tions in 2004. It is very important that you check wityour tax advisors before making any of these suggested donations to be sure that these advantagewill apply to you.
