NEWS FROM THE ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY: The Vincentian Family Today: Recognizing that there is strength in unity and numbers, the international leaders have challenged the Vincentian Family to collaborate more effectively to meet the escalating needs of the world’s poor. St. Vincent de Paul was a master of collaboration and organization. His vision of service entailed connections, relationships, and teamwork. “We should assist the poor in every way, and do it by ourselves and by enlisting the help of others,” Vincent advised. “To do this is to preach the gospel by words and by works.” Through collaboration, the Vincentian Family can, more quickly and more efficiently, fulfill Blessed Frederic Ozanam’s dream of embracing the world in a network of charity. The international leadership urge the various branches of the Vincentian Family to use the excellent resources available to them to do spiritual formation in common. Each branch of the Family has much to offer the others in the field of spirituality, and each can benefit from the sharing of the collective wisdom and grace of the others. Eager to strengthen its relationship with the worldwide Vincentian Family, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the United States recommends the following websites to its members as excellent resources for formation and education: www.famvin.org, www.ozanet.org, and www.svdpusa.org. Dynamic Catholic.com Be Bold. Be Catholic The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic

The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic is one of the great Catholic books of our times, but it is so much more than a book. The ideas and concepts that fill its pages want to change your life and transform your parish. We hope you are enjoying this book and offer the following questions for you to think about: THE PROLOGUE & CHAPTER 1: INCREDIBLE POSSIBILITIES 1. What idea from the first chapter of the book impacted you the most? 2. How do you sense God is calling you to grow at this time in your life? 3. Which of the Four Signs – Prayer, Study, Generosity, and Evangelization – is the strongest in your life today? 4. Which of the Four Signs is the weakest in your life today? Why? 5. How can you apply the concept of continuous improvement in your life to grow in the Four Signs? 6. At what time in your life were you most engaged in your Catholic faith? Let your family and friends know they can get a free copy of The Four Signs of A Dynamic Catholic from St. Joachim Parish.

– “Take care of your spiritual life, your relationship with God, because this is the backbone of everything we do and everything we are.”

THIS WEEK’S READINGS: Today’s readings are clearly about God’s call and the human response. In the first reading, young Samuel is learning what God’s voice sounds like. In the Gospel, the disciples respond to Jesus’ invitation, “Come and see.” As we listen to these readings, what can they tell us about how God is calling us? How do we respond to God’s invitation? QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What character will I be in this week’s re-enactment of the Gospel: John the Baptist pointing someone to Jesus? One of the two disciples encountering Jesus personally? Or, Andrew bringing a family member or friend to Jesus? WE PRAY, ESPECIALLY TODAY, for the Generation Life Youth Group of St. James & St. Joachim Parishes. Our Youth Group and Chaperones will be leaving on Wednesday evening, January 21

st

to attend the Pro-Life March in Washington DC on Thursday, January 22
