From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time: “Behold, the Lamb of God.” In the library where I a ended college, there was a stained-glass window that simply said “Logos”. From the perspec ve of the Gospel of John, the word refers to God’s Word dwelling among us in Jesus Christ. The belief that God’s Word is manifest in our lives because of Christ is the very founda on of our faith. Yet, understanding the intermingling of the Logos in life, would send me on a long journey that would ul mately lead me to the priesthood, but more importantly to a deeper understanding and belief in that Word, in that Logos. So, today in homily prepara on, wri ng, reading, teaching, serving,…I look for the Word, the Logos pre-sent in every encounter. (At least, I try to!!) When John the Bap st proclaims, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God’, he sees and understands the Word made flesh, dwelling among him, and announcing it for all to see. Clearly, John the Bap-

st believed in Logos, even if he would not have used that word. So, how do we recognize the Word, the intermingling of God in our daily encounters? In the expression ‘Lamb of God’, we are given one obvious way. The Lamb of God is the Body of Christ, the source of our salva on as would be revealed at the Passover Meal which would become the Last Supper. The Word made flesh is made known to us in the Eucharist. Ul mately, that is the reason Catholics a end Mass. Not because it is an obliga on, but because the Logos is made manifest. Hopefully, every day is another chance for the Logos to live through you. ~For your calendar: January 22nd is the scheduled day the Archdiocese will formally announce the result of Renew My Church as it pertains to St. Linus. Go to archchicago.org click on Re-new My Church and then click Decisions for more informa on. ~January 22nd is also a day of prayer for an end to abor on and respect of all human life. “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.” ~ “Hatred paralyzes life, Love releases it….Hatred darkens life, Love illuminates it.” —Mar n Luther King, Jr. Have a great week! The St. Vincent de Paul Society

LOVE IN OUR WORK In the Gospel today, Jesus asks “What are you look-ing for?” Often, we are looking for happiness in very selfish ways, but we find that when we look for ways to make others happy, it is then that we truly become happy. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul poor box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust.

Whoever brings blessings will be enriched,

and the one who waters will himself be watered. —Proverbs 11:25

PLEASE NOTE: We are always looking for new members or volunteers. Leave your name and number

at the rectory.

Because of COVID-19 we have cancelled our Bundle Weekends.

Clothes can still be dropped off at the boxes at St. Gerald Parish

and the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store at 7010 W. 159th St., Orland Park

The Women’s Center… In our nation approximately 1 million abortions are performed each year. The aborted babies aren’t the only victims. Their mothers, who in many cases were pressured into the abortion, are also victims. Sooner or later, they experience horrible grief and depression. At the Women’s Centers we try to ena-ble women struggling with problem pregnancies to give birth and save them from grieving later. SEEKING DONATIONS FOR NEW MOTHERS: Our moms need items for their own use such as lo-tions, shampoo, toothpaste, soaps and other health and hygiene items. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
