1. JANE'S AMBITION
Never let your gender
prevent you from pursuing
your loftydreams''
,she says.
''What utter nonsense Jane!
woman flyingplanes!
Impossible''
Jane's teacher almostthrew her composition
note book at her.
Jane was a student in the third standard in a
small village in the U.S. And she had been asked to write
about her ambition in life.
Jane hadalways wanted to
become a crop dusting pilot
like her father.
She wanted to do parachute jumping
cloud seeding to get rains,
fire fighting and air-lifting sick people
and she had written about it.
But her teacher thoroughly
disapproved of allthese jobs.
Jane showed her composition to her
dad, silently pointing out the teacher's
remarks.
Mr. Harper said, ''Oh, don't you know about
Amelia Erhart, a woman who flies?
don't give upyour dream.
You can become a pilot if you try hard''.
As Jane grew ,whenever she told about herambition, she was
laughed at.
When she’s in VIII standard, her teacher Mrs. Slaton wanted the students to
write about their future plans.
Jane thought that at leastshe could be a waitress
and wrote it down.
Jane thought that at leastshe could be a waitress
and wrote it down.
Two weeks later, the teacher returned the
composition and said,
''If you had unlimitedtalents and abilities, had unlimited money, would
you choose the same career?''
Not a single handwent up'‘
''Class, you have unlimitedpotentials. You can
achieve your goals if youwork hard.
Go for it''.
Jane was inspired by her remark and decided
to pursue her ambition.
She took flying lessons. She worked hard and at
last in 1978, she becameone of the first three female pilot trainees.
Eventually she became the Captain of Boeing 737
and enjoyed it.
She could realise her dream because she
worked hard.''
''Yes, any human can do all that I have done and more.
So never let your genderprevent you from pursuing
your lofty dreams, she says.
You have to have a dream, and work hard to fulfill the
dream.
