03 04 01 02 ISSUE NO. 30 JANUARY 2011 FROM THE DESK OF CMD A year has gone by, and I am pleased to say that we are on our way to accomplish almost all the targets that we had kept for ourselves. This year also saw many awards coming our way, some of them for the organization, some for specific sites and some for specific people. I must acknowledge this would not have been possible without your support and contribution. It is now time for us to soar higher for the next milestone. If you think it, then you can do it. Year 2011 is a preparatory year for us for a bigger goal for subsequent years- THE IPO. With this larger picture in mind we have set ourselves a target of a Rs. 1000 Cr. for the Contracts division; a Rs. 300- 400 Cr., for the Real Estate division and an aim of larger projects in the Infrastructure. We also have our eyes set on diversifying into some related and unrelated businesses like gas distribution, solar energy, and precast pre-stressed & MS pipe work. Many avenues like such are being explored and the year will give a crystal clear picture of where we are heading as far as our diversification plans are concerned. As construction professionals we know that the taller we aim to grow, the sounder should be the footing. What we mean here is that we need to be absolutely meticulous and precise in the adherence to the systems and processes. This reinforcement shall be ensured by putting a System Audit mechanism in place. A team that will ensure that each and every location of Rohan follows systems and o processes, including SAP ERP implementation, shall be instituted. We also would be going for a 360 appraisal of the organization. This will help us to evaluate where we stand as far as perceptions about our service levels are concerned and try to work on the suggestions we get from them as well. Fully understanding, that an organization is not about machines, but the hands are behind those machines, the intentions are to strengthen the HR function in the sense of knowledge and empowerment. Already, plans are in progress for enhancing the knowledge levels of the 'People' behind people and the HR team can expect some new initiatives right from the beginning of this year. As far as Quality Circle is concerned, the year has seen many changes. There have been some hits & misses, but while considering the growth of people, the ones who have imbibed 'continuous improvement' through Quality Circles, will certainly be earning some brownie points. Of course while doing so; let us not lose focus on Safety aspect. The larger we grow, the more the responsibility. We do have system for safety management in place, but like Quality Circles, even Safety has to become an innate philosophy for each Rohanite. The joy of achieving is rendered multi-fold if it is blended with the joy of giving. We are involved into several activities where we try to fulfill our Social Responsibilities. Year 2011 will see a better commitment and dedication for the same. In fact, I would like to appeal to each Rohanite to resolve this year to give back to the society in whatever way you can. Believe that 'we can make a difference.' To summarize, in this year, we plan to do big... We focus not just on WHAT we do, but also on HOW we do it. My best wishes to all. Let's go for it TOGETHER, like we have while facing some testing times this year. BAI AWARD Rohan Seher On 08.12.2010, in the BAI’s Well Built Structure Competition 2010 , in the category of "Best Group Housing Scheme", we were awarded a trophy & certificate for our project 'Rohan Seher,'. As you are aware that ‘BAI’, Pune (Builders Association of India, Pune Branch) is known for its contribution towards continuous improvement in the field of construction. This award has been instituted to recognize excellence in the field of “Residential-Group Housing Scheme” considering the quality, speed, Economy, Safety & welfare. Congratulations to all who have been part of this team and making this possible. We hope to win more such awards in 2011 by our other projects as well.

FROM THE DESK OF CMD

A year has gone by, and I am pleased to say that we are on our way to accomplish almost all the targets that we had kept for ourselves. This year also saw many awards coming our way, some of them for the organization, some for specific sites and some for specific people. I must acknowledge this would not have been possible without your support and contribution. It is now time for us to soar higher for the next milestone. If you think it, then you can do it. (Graphical User Interface) , it is called SAP GUI. SAP GUI installed on your local PC, displays the screen according to the ABAP program that you are running. How does SAP GUI come to know what is to be displayed and what data it needs to fetch and where it is to be stored? - All this is taken care by the ABAP program that is executed on the Application Server. What comprises of this SAP application server? - Well there are many components but lets discuss the bare minimum to keep it simple. SAP GUI communicates with Application server that has a DISPATCHER and 5 different processes to execute the ABAP program. These 5 different processes are called WORK PROCESS in SAP, as they do all the hard work. Lets look at the different work process and the work they do. Any program that needs a screen to be displayed to the user (i.e. requires data inputs from the users) is executed by DIALOG work process. It will fetch the needed ABAP program and

l

execute it for you. There may be two or more of this kind depending on the load on the server. Any kind of printing job is taken care by SPOOL work process. When you press the print button, this process will to the needful to get the printout. Any kind of job that just need data to be processed and can be done without user intervention is executed by BACKGROUND work process. All batch processing jobs are background jobs. Now lets see the work processes that are required to keep the DATA consistent. The ENQUEUE process ensures that data that one user is editing cannot be changed by other user. It is a kind of Lock mechanism. The UPDATE work process writes the data that you have entered in your screen to that Database once you have completed your full transaction. There are two of them. So this sums up 5 different work process and the work they do.Contributed by Mukund Kshirsagar

workmanship. This is most important activity which will affect quality & speed of activity. ARCHITECTURAL WONDER

Palm Islands Dubai : The Palm Islands is a series of artificial islands in Dubai, UAE on which major commercial and residential infrastructure will be constructed. They are being constructed by Nakheel Properties, who hired the Dutch dredging & marine contractor Van Oord, one of the world's specialists in land reclamation. The islands are The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali and The Palm Deira. The islands were commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in order to increase Dubai's tourism. Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent, and will have a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. The Palm Islands are located off the coast of UAE in the Persian Gulf and will add 520 km of beaches to the city of Dubai. The first two

islands will comprise approximately 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand. Between the three islands there will be over 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas. Construction: The Palm Islands are technically artificial peninsulas constructed of sand dredged from the bottom of the Persian Gulf. The sand is sprayed by the dredging ships, which are guided by DGPS, onto the required area in a process known as rainbowing due to the way the sand arcs when sprayed. The outer edge of each Palm's encircling crescent is a large rock breakwater. The breakwater of the Palm Jumeirah has over 7 million tons of rock. Each rock was placed individually by a crane, signed off by a diver and given a GPS coordinate. The Jan De Nul Group started the work on the Palm Jebel Ali in 2002 and finished by the end of 2006. The reclamation project of the Palm Jebel Ali includes the creation of a 4 km long peninsula, protected by a 200 m wide and 17 km long breakwater built around the island. 135,000,000 m³ of rock, sand and limestone were reclaimed (partly originating from the Jebel Ali Entrance Channel dredging works). The slope protection works for the crescent include approximately 5,000,000 m³ of rocks.
