Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. took a courageous stand for unity and equality for all people. Following the non-violent teachings of Gandhi, his example of peaceful demonstrations made a powerful impact on the fight for civil rights. Join us as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Enjoy making crafts to commemorate the

day and decorating squares of hope to be added to our ever growing peace quilt. In addition, take part in the largest balloon release of unity with notes of hope sealed within. Enjoy local artists as they create Dr. King works of art before your very eyes and you surely do not want to miss the special presentations of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech and stories of unity by Dr. Lawrence Blackwell and the University of Memphis Story Troopers. It's more than a celebration of fun; it's a celebration with meaning and purpose. Letters will be on display from our Dear Dr. King - Kid's Dream Project received from students in the Memphis and surrounding area schools. Join in the commemorative march of peace and enjoy happy birthday Dr. King cupcakes. Let's make this a day of unity that would make Dr. King proud. Event is included with museum admission.

Join us for a special celebration as we explore the journey and legacy of African Americans from slavery to modern day with poetry and literary readings of famous writers like Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Ralph Ellison and Nikki Giovanni. "That's a Wrap" - Special Events at CMOM!In November, everyone's favorite cartoon characters came out to play at Cartoon Character Day! Visitors were treated to special appearances by Spongebob, Hello Kitty and everyone's favorite explorers, Dora and Diego! Kids played games and made crafts as they wandered throughout the museum.

In December, the holidays were filled with fun as we held our annual Gingerbread Fantasy! The Gingerbread Man stopped by to check out all of the lovely houses. Reindeer Games and Candy Canes gave kids a chance to see Santa and their favorite reindeer as well as do holiday crafts and games!

New Year's at Noon celebrated the year of the horse with boot stompin' fun! Guests decorated bandanas, made noise makers, raced horses and line danced to the Friendzies as we counted down to the New Year with the bubble wrap boot stomp!
