Both were born in Los Angeles, California and embodied the typical surf boys, which was attractive to fans of this subgroup.
Musical Composition & Future Influence
They have had a significant foot in the subculture of “Surfing Music” and have been argued to be worthy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, due to the number of hits and popularity during their time.
The duo was able to capitalize on the heavily focused theme of a carefree lifestyle of the typical Californian youth, as can be most evidently seen in arguably their biggest hit, “Surf City”.
The T.A.M.I ShowThe duo was also featured on the historical “T.A.M.I Show” in which Rock and Roll heavyweight artists like Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye and the Beach Boys also were present. This significant milestone shows tribute to their relevance in this time.
Contributions to Contemporary RockJan and Dean are relevant to current developments of Rock and Roll as they
have contributed towards the shaping of punk rock.
The duo’s then critical attitude towards the music industry, as well as their early upbringings, their music and persona has also had an effect on contemporary punk rock and have been covered and referenced by multiple Punk Rock Artists.
