Well members, here we again...another year gone. Happy new year to all you guys. I hope Santa bought you all the elec-tronic toys you hoped for !!!! We welcome another new member, Rod Wall, VK3BKO….. On behalf of the club Rod, we extend a warm welcome and hope to see you on Satur-day mornings.
Now on a more serious note, Peter VK3TQ has been doing a sterling job producing the newsletter , unfortunately he has not been able to continue with it due to weekend family and work commitments, so, with 75 member-sthere must be someone that can take over, surely all you boys who spend so much time on your computer could have a go, Peter will give you all the help you need. We don't want to see the newsletter go down the gurgla so please if you can find the time on a few hours every 2 months. Its not hard I tell ya. By now the contest boys have run the suim-mer field daY competition last weekend, they tell me it was good fun, learnt a bit about 23cm and hard a good time, not sure about the point score, but I tell ya we gave a go!
Congratulations the the Mudmiester Andrew Stewart now VK3AEJ Well done muddy, and also our guests and members from Icom.
Icom M.D. Takashi Aoki is now VK3NON

Summer Field Day 2008
Volume 32 Issue 1 Page 4
Summer vhf/uhf field day contest 2008. On Saturday 12 th January your club entered the Summer VHF/UHF Field Day Contest. The operators were Stjepan vk3tsn, Gerard vk3ger, Andrew vk3aej and Roy vk3gb. We were lucky by having two helpers Ken vk3zer and John vk3jjo.
We all arrived at an earlier time of 8.00am at the operating site which was Mt Martha Golf Course. This time we had three mobile towers. On one tower we had two beams for 2 metre. The second tower supported two beams for 70 cm and the third tower had a 6 element 6 metre beam. I think we all agreed we need more practice in the setting up of these antennas or additional help from club members. Ken vk3zer who use to be employed by channel 7 and was responsible for outside broadcasts noted our effort in setting up and re-ported we could do much better. I am pleased to report Ken has offered to set out a programme of how to set up an outside field day event professionally.
The contest went well and we were very lucky the 2 and 6 metre bands opened up into vk4 land. One vk8 gave us some points too, however, as much as we tried no vk7s were logged on 6 metres. The 70 cm band was active, however, we did struggle with only 35 watts output. Stjepan reports he could hear stations but they couldn't hear us. Some attention for the next contest is required.
The weather was kind to us as it was calm and warm. I shudder to think how different it could have been if it had been a windy day. Two towers were at 50 ft and the tower with the 6 metre beam about 35 ft. Our score was not as good as the Spring field day contest. This appears due to the lack of sufficient new squares coupled with insufficient operators and possibly compounded by a very enjoyable BBQ.
Despite his damaged knee Ed vk3ed had his wife drop him off at the site. Ed very kindly took many photo's and a video which will shortly be available to club member. Thank you Ed.
Thanks to all club members who called in and gave us some points. It was a great day out however, it was a shame there were not more club members to enjoy it.
