A doctor quickly entered the hospital after being called in for an urgent surgery. He changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He saw the boy’s father walking back and forth in the hall waiting for the doctor.

Once seeing the doctor, the dad yelled: “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have the sense of responsibility?”

The doctor smiled and said: “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came the fastest I could… now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work.”

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do?” said the father angrily.

The doctor smiled again and replied: “I will quote what it says in our holy Torah “from dust we came and to dust

we return, blessed be the True Judge.’ Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son, we will do our best with Hashem’s help”

“Giving advice when we’re not concerned is so easy” murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy, “Baruch Hashem! Your son is saved!”

And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If you have any question, ask the nurse.”

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state?” commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered: “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was at the cemetery when we called him for your son’s surgery.”

Chlorella is a species of algae, more commonly referred to as seaweed. They’re a very large and diverse group of simple organisms. They can be as small as a single cell or as large as the giant kelps that grow to 65 meters in length in temperate oceans.

Most algae, including chlorella, act like plants by creating energy from sunlight — a process called photosynthesis. But they’re still considered “simple” because their cells and tissues are not organized into the many distinct internal organs.

Naturally growing algae are an important source of food, especially in Asia. They provide many vitamins, including vitamin E,folate and vitamin C, and are also rich in iodine, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium.

Some species are also a rich source of beta-carotene andB vitamins.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, researchers were able to isolate many nutrients from chlorella, including amino acids, protein, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.

These days, it’s growing in popularity as an important immune booster.

Chlorella Improves Immune Parameters

Researchers recently completed a short-term study measuring changes in specific immune parameters during chlorella supplementation.

The researchers recruited 51 healthy people for their 8 week study. All participants

were randomized into either a group receiving 5 grams a day of chlorella or a placebo group. The results were quite impressive. Here’s what they found:

• The activity of Natural Killer Cells, a type of immune cell, significantly increased in the

chlorella group.

• Two immune proteins involved in fighting viruses and bacteria, interferon-gamma and interleukin-1 beta, increased significantly in

the chlorella group.

Supporting a robust immune system is really one of the key steps to living a longer life. Your

immune system is responsible for fighting and destroying anything

that is foreign to your own cells and tissues. That includes not only bacteria and viruses and yeast, but also cancer cells.

As such, consider adding chlorella to your list of immune

boosters. Many of us already take vitamins C and D and other immune nutrients, like selenium and bitter herbs.

Adding chlorella to this list may very well be a good idea if strengthening immunity is important to you!

A “Fresh” way to “Recycle” your Tu B’shvat Fruits

Ingredients

• 2 cups dried apricots

• 3 cups boiling water

• 2 tablespoons honey

• 1/2 cup sugar

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees with oven rack in center. Place apricots in a large bowl, and cover with the water; let soak until they are completely soft, 30 to 45 minutes. Transfer to a fine sieve; drain, and reserve liquid.

2. Place apricots in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal blade; add honey and sugar. Process until mixture is very smooth and easily spreadable. If it is too thick, add up to 1 tablespoon soaking liquid.

3. Cover two 10-by-15-inch baking sheets with plastic wrap. Divide puree between the sheets; spread in a thin, even layer with an offset spatula. Let dry in oven until mixture is firm but slightly tacky, about 8 hours or overnight. Remove from oven; let cool.

4. Peel fruit leather from plastic wrap, and cut into 1-inch-wide strips using a pizza cutter. Roll tightly into cylinders, and serve.
