FOREWORD

“DURING your convocation ceremony, you will see many degree holders, coz’ that’s exactly what they do- stand and hold on to their degrees papers. But, how many of you will truly be a graduate?” – inspired by Daniel Tan, Accounting Lecturer, SIM

As you walk into the boardroom to be greeted by the panel, you muster every bit of self-confidence you could find within and trust yourself to having practiced for your first job interview since graduation. The question came, “What is the most unique experience you’ve ever had in university?” What would you reminisce about? Tales of lectures, projects and exams like many others before you? Or would you be in a position to say, “I danced on the same floor with the regional COO of IBM at a national event”; “I led a team of 15 to organize the biggest student-run conference in the region”; “I worked with over 20 international participants on an overseas mission for community development”; “I was part of an organization whose alumni resounded names like Bill Clinton, Junichiro Koizumi and other leaders of world change.” “I was once an AIESECer.” University is perhaps the last stop before youth turns into adulthood and student-life gets taken over by the corporate world. Are you taking this chance to craft your story and be on the course of a true graduate?

What is it? It is a platform for you to exercise and develop your leadership potential and functional skills.

How is MEP delivered? Each MEP participant starts off by being part of a Local Chapter (LC) in the university, in this case AIESEC in SIM. You will then be attached to a functional team, which contributes to the running of the LC. Here, you begin experiential learning by taking responsibilities and applying your knowledge and skills, while being supplemented with programmes run by AIESEC and our corporate partners. During your MEP experience, you can choose to attend any available AIESEC activities, including conferences, exchange and overseas internship (GCDP or GIP).

The commitment level vary according to your leadership position in AIESEC. A basic member is expected to commit to once a week of functional team meetings and a once a month Local Chapter Meeting (LCM). Why apply for MEP? - To exercise your capabilities, thus developing your leadership and personal potential.

- To experience management, at various levels of leadership.

- To work closely with other university LCs, as well as the national AIESEC team.

GCDP is just another Community Involvement Project (CIP)? Read on! 1. GCDP is mission-based, as compared to task-oriented CIPs. You’re not going

overseas to simply build homes or help to the unfortunate (of instance). You will be part of coordinating the greater mission in creating social impact to the host environment.

2. GCDP lasts for a longer duration of 6-12 weeks compared to CIPs which typically spans over 2 weeks or so. That extended stay in the local community gives you ample time to soak up the local life!

3. You will be working with other international participants in GCDP, unlike in CIPs where you usually remain with your own circle. This is where international friendship bonds begin!

4. Upon returning to Singapore from GCDP, you can choose to continue your AIESEC Experience by engaging with MEP. In most CIPs, the experience ends as soon as the programme does.

5. As GCDP is run by the local AIESEC committee, you will have the opportunity to engage with other AIESEC events there (e.g: conferences, meetings, gatherings, etc.). In most cases with CIPs, you’ll be staying at the project location only.

MEP is just another Special Interest Club? Read on! 1. Being in the MEP means that you’re part of the 64,000 AIESECers in the

world’s largest youth-driven organization. Not just another club in SIM!

2. Overseas internship is part of MEP to value-add your personal development. You can do the MEP in tandem with either the Global Community Development Programme (GCDP), which is an attachment working on community development or the Global Internship Programme (GIP), which is an industrial attachment to a company.

3. MEP offers a wide array of interest disciplines, through experiential learning within the various departments of the SIM local chapter. They include Business Development, Communications, Finance, Exchange Management, Talent Management, among others.

4. As AIESEC is run as an organization, operations take after good industry practices, thus giving you the opportunity to acquire and experience work-relevant skills and knowledge.

5. Being in AIESEC means being connected to readily available support from the national team, corporate partners, alumni network and your counterparts from NUS, NTU and SMU. Not forgetting too, the international AIESEC network!
