Worship as a community Over the years one of the greatest struggles for Liturgical Planners is to try to get people to sit together at Mass. Many things have been tried: roping off sections, turning out lights, padding pews in the front, not putting hymnals in certain sections, badgering the people, etc.,etc., these only confuse and create resentment. Not too long ago this came out: "If you can't pull the people up from the front don't even bother to try to push them up from the back". This thought puts pressure on the priest and liturgical planners to put on a "Good Show", and is of course fallacy. The simple fact is that good Liturgy like a loving community depends on the good will, love, devotion and understanding of those who come to celebrate together in gratitude to thank the Lord Jesus. We worship near one another so that we can hear one another in prayer and song, so that we will not be lonely, so that we can support one another, meet new friends and celebrate the most important event that ever happened, the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Jesus invites us all to celebrate this event with Him. It really doesn't matter where we choose to sit as long as our prayer and song can be shared with those around us. The Mass is a community celebration, not a private worship. The main reason that we celebrate as a community is because this is what the Lord Jesus did. Scripture reminds us that: as was his custom, Jesus joined in the Sabbath celebration. Jesus knew the value of people praying together and instructed His Apostles and us to do the same. Come, Let us Celebrate! We are beginning a new program to focus our attention on our role in the “Community of Saints”. If you have requested a mass for a loved one, we invite you to bring a picture or two of your loved one and place it on the table in front of the Altar during the requested mass. After mass you can take the picture home with you. This will help the whole community to focus their prayers and remind all of us to pray for one another. While you are praying keep in mind those who will be attending the “March for Life” in Washington on Monday and all those children, 1.4 million a year, whose lives are snuffed out through abortion. These are not the only victims, keep in mind the millions of family members who suffer from the long lasting effects of abortion. The strength and holiness of a civilization is seen in the way they protect the innocent. We have a long way to go.
