6th Grade Rocks

Chalk Talk: Hamlet During the week of January 7-11, students in Mrs. Torre’s RtI Reading Class studied

excerpts from Hamlet, a play written by William Shakespeare. “Chalk Talk”, a round-robin read and respond activity, concluded our study. The power of the “Chalk Talk” is in the written word. The probing questions invited answers and comments. Students were

encouraged to respond to each other’s writing, in total silence. As Shakespeare would say, in his own words, we were “noiseless and successful”. Our completed project is on

display in the 6th grade hallway.

Students in Mr. Cox’s 6th Grade Social Studies Class use their new IPads to research facts about the Social, Political and Economic changes that occurred in

Russia the time period before the Russian Revolution to the present.

Mrs. Ryan’s SFA class recently read the book Drylongso by award- winning author, Virginia

Hamilton. Drylongso is a wonderful story of a loving family who invites an adrift boy, named

Drylongso, into their home during a severe dust storm. In return, Drylongso gives the family

hope. One of the ways Drylongso changes their lives is by drowsing for a water source for their

newly planted crops. The students also tried out their “well wishing” skills. Is drowsing possible

or just a wise tale?

Fantasy Football Update

The season is over and all of the stats have been compiled. Everything is being double - and triple - checked. Winners will be announced on January 29th, and awarded prizes!

Stay tuned to see who won it all!

FCCLA and the Christmas Spirit

FCCLA members put on their elf outfits, picked up Santa, and they were off to deliver presents in the Lackland ISD suburban/sleigh. Volunteering for the Elf Louise project,

FCCLA members picked up the gifts and delivered them to 8 families in the San Antonio area. This is the second year that FCCLA has participated in this project and it is definitely a memory maker. It is very rewarding to see the smiles on the children’s faces. FCCLA

would also like to the Ms. Denny and Ms. Maria for their help in transporting all the students and gifts!
