James Randi was a renowned magician, knows as the Amazing Randi, who even performed at the White House during the Ford Administration. Since then, he has garnered fame as a skeptic, working tirelessly to debunk supernatural, paranormal, and other pseudoscientific myths and claims to attempt to stop individuals from intentionally deceiving the public, authoring several books on the subject. He is the founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation with the mission to and currently is offering a million dollar prize to anyone who can sufficiently prove a paranormal or supernatural claim.James Randi is a Canadian-American and has taught at NYU, Brookdale Community College, and UCLA, as well as presenting several guest lectures at other colleges. In 1995, he was given an honorary degree from the University of Indianapolis. He has lectured internationally, including at a TED conference, where he overdosed on homeopathic sleeping pills.For his effort in promoting a love of science and preventing the spread of misinformation, Randi has received a myriad of awards , including a Fellowship from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Humanist Distinguished Service Award from the American Humanist Association, and the Distinguished Skeptic Award from the Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. Most importantly, he has an asteroid named after him: 1981 QM C Randi.
