1980-2002 Joined the faculty of New Mexico State University in August 1980 at the rank of

Professor of History in August 1992. Earned tenure in August 1988. Retired at the

rank of Emeritus Professor of History in August 2002.

1973-1975 Full time graduate student at the University of Virginia. Major field of study was

American history from the colonial period to the present. Special field of study was

American diplomatic history. Minor fields included Recent American history,

Russian history, and Soviet diplomatic history. Dissertation analyzed American

foreign policy in Korea from 1941 to 1950.

1971-1973 Full time graduate student at the University of Virginia. Received Master of Arts

degree in June 1973. Master’s thesis was an investigation of Sino-American

relations from 1958 to 1968 from the Chinese perspective.

1970-1971 Joined the Illinois National Guard in February 1970 and spent four months on

active duty. Transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve in August 1971.

1966-1970 Received Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Lake Forest College in June

1970. Senior thesis dealt with Soviet-American relations from 1917 to 1935.

charge of instruction at the Charlottesville school in 1974 and named Commandant

in 1977. Developed a counseling and evaluation system, training schedule, and

organizational structure adopted by the 80th Division for its Drill Sergeant Academy

program. Received awards for excellence in instruction in 1974 and 1977. Named

outstanding instructor of the 1974 summer encampment. Received honorable

discharge in 1980.
