Why Resource efficiency?
• In 2050 we will need 3 planets!
6
– We all need use less resources! a) Managing to live with less resources…. DematerializaIon -‐ the reducIon in the
quanIty of materials required to serve economic funcIons (doing more with less, driving more efficient cars, using less water, eaIng less meat
b) Move our society away from using limited resources to using renewable resources …use electricity from wind and sun
– We need a sustainable society! 7
But there is hope!
• Global leaders supporIng climate acIon • Financial insItuIons are sold on climate acIon
• Financial incenIves , green funds more available to business
• A surge in energy efficiency technologies

• Local Banks offering low interest loans
Financial insItuIons and big business are sold on climate acIon • Energy Efficiency ObligaIon Scheme EEOS
A kWhr electricity saved ~ 5 cent/ kWhr
Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme • Engage with energy suppliers and equipment
suppliers and avail of funds for EEOS • Some suppliers give “Cash for Kilowatts” Slieve Russel Hotel Supplier provided LEDs
in the hotel’s lobby for for free
-in return for the reduced kWhrs
Re-lamping Paybacks
ValueofelectricitysavingsunderEEOS@5cent/kWhr=€18.4/lamp
That’s'€8,100/'annum'for'200'lamps,'at'NO'COST'!
