2:184 - (Fast) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a Fidyah, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it is better for you that you fast, if you only knew.

Zakat-ul-Fitr = $13 per person Fidyah = $7 per day

Zakat-ul-Fitr must be paid prior to the end of the Ramadan. The purpose of the Zakat-ul-Fitr is to purify the person from any shortcomings during the month of fasting, and to help the poor and needy. The head of household must pay this amount for each of the persons under his/her care.

Fidyah is required when someone can not fast due to circumstances beyond their control, and can not make up the missed days (for example, illness or old age). The Fidyah is intended to feed a miskeen (person in need).
